Stoopid film, but the soundtrack was a passable if seemingly arbitrary selection of hits by Australian pop combos, 1981-1987. (Mostly. The tepid Chuck Berry cover was recorded for the film--the title character 'sings' it. And I've omitted some trivial snippets.)

"A Serious Motion Picture Soundtrack"? Geez. The Saints track was actually as late as 1988 too. It's a shambles.

The correct answer, by the way, may be The Stems. Pretty sure this was the first time I heard them as a wee lad.
