This audiobook is amazing.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 1 November 2018 22:33 (six years ago)

my preordered print copy arrived in the mail today but kinda wishing i’d gone for the audio version now ;_;

la bébé du nom-nom (bizarro gazzara), Thursday, 1 November 2018 22:45 (six years ago)

I bought the book because it's an amazing archive with photos and a comic and a cookbook (!) but I knew I wanted to hear them tell the stories so I got the audiobook from the library.

EZ Snappin, Thursday, 1 November 2018 23:11 (six years ago)

I ordered the book today

Mike d’s enunciation reminds me of Mitch hedberg

calstars, Saturday, 3 November 2018 18:24 (six years ago)

Adrock’s “back in my day” chapter (5?) Almost gets it right with the pencil and cassette but misses the trick of inserting the pencil in the gear and then spinning it around for super manual FF / REW

calstars, Saturday, 3 November 2018 19:19 (six years ago)

Did you really use a pencil... or was it a pen?

four months pass...

This is one of the best audiobooks I've listened to in years. Makes me wonder what other music bios would have been vastly improved by hearing that email author narrate them.

enochroot, Saturday, 16 March 2019 16:35 (six years ago)

Also, it's criminal that no one voted for Jarvis Cocker. His chapters were priceless.

enochroot, Saturday, 16 March 2019 16:36 (six years ago)

two weeks pass...

Cosign on both of the above statements, I have a very long driving commute nowadays and this audiobook is making it fly by, utterly brilliant apart from the recipes, which I had to skip past after 5 mins, would have voted for Jarvis.

After listening to the entire thing, it's best just to hear from Mike D and Ad Rock, followed by the good actors (Buscemi et al), with LL Cool J having a very enthusiastic star turn.

ten months pass...

LL Cool J, Jarvis Cocker and Rosie Perez were my non-Beasties favorites. gtfo Maddow and Stewart!!

The book was really good especially in the early NYC worldbuilding chapters, but lost a lot of steam in the last quarter or so. You do really end up feeling Yauch's absence, I badly wanted his perspective on a lot of the events.

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Friday, 21 February 2020 17:15 (five years ago)

I got a laugh out of Better Midler reciting the phone call intro from "The Maestro."
