Thread to discuss Leverage Models' 2018 album 'Whites'

In a message to Brad I described this album as "Pet Shop Boys meets TV on the Radio", which is both silly and potentially off-putting to people who otherwise might like it, but it seems like a good interim measure for articulating this excellent album's vibe of dense, knotty, maximalist, political synth-pop. Here's another "is that even a compliment?" compliment: there's so much going on here that it feels much longer and more exhausting than a 35 minute running time would suggest.

i'm going to have to spend a fair bit of time with this to really know what to make of it, but first listen was promising, i think it most reminds me of Mew and Lansing-Dreiden?

so far we're 3.5/4 on 'compared artists that pique my interest', let's dive in

(in an hour after I finish this assignment)

my baggage coming to this record is: the lead singer's voice sounds like clean metalcore vocals. in fact, if you took all the metal out of overdriven synthy metalcore, it... might sound like this

i am pretty into it, it's just also confounding

i also hear pvris briefly in the first track but then that association totally disappears

also: there's a ton of perfume in this imo

The message is laudable, the music isn't quite, imo

I did listen to it straight-through twice without noticing though so it wasn't a turn off after three tracks job
