last album felt a little bit slight, with a few high points. always worth hearing what he's up to, though.

I'll buy anything he does first day it's available, based on the Evangelist album which fer me is just one of those records.

"The Evangelist" is an amazing album, borne of such tragic circumstances that it could've been maudlin or fallen flat but it completely soars.

Given that super high level, I concur with Tyler's assessment of the last album. Robert's solo work has mostly been patchy, we'll see how this new one fares.

Agree with the love for The Evangelist. Such a beautiful and heartbreaking listen. It would be in my top three albums of anything Go-Betweens related. The last album wasn't quite in the same league, but still a really great listen. His second best solo album IMO. Apart from those two and Danger In The Past, I'd agree with you Gerald that his solo work has been quite patchy. I'm guessing that Inferno will be an instant classic based on the artwork alone.

I enjoyed the video more than the song unfortunately.

Agreed, but I'll sample the full release when it's out.

The photo you sent me, out the window, of the snow
Well it looks like paradise
Oh, that ice!

These are pretty much my exact thoughts for the entirety of Jan and Feb. Timely release for the southern hemisphere.

Well! This is considerably more spirited than the material from the last album.

Out Friday! I got a promo a while back, it's very good. Turns out the title track is the outlier, spiritedness-wise, though the whole thing does sound like it was recorded during a heat wave. Lots of alluring Forster in summery repose for our enjoyment.

His best produced record.

Alfred, is that like saying "she's got a nice personality"?

enochroot, Tuesday, 26 February 2019 16:19 (six years ago)

no, it sounds great! Thin mixes and under arranged songs have been a problem for him (i.e. the last record, BYBO, a couple of his '90s records).
