Billboard Modern Rock #1 Hits of 2018

It's that time of year again. 14 songs hit #1 in 2018. Some really random tracks here, like the Weezer "Africa" cover and the EDM mashup between Marshmello and Bastille (also a #3 hit on the Hot 100). Rivers Cuomo actually made two trips to the top, as he was featured on AJR's single from early in the year.

Went with Marshmello/Bastille. Super catchy

LimbsKing, Tuesday, 18 December 2018 17:21 (seven years ago)

What a grim collection of music.

“high hopes” by a lot

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 18 December 2018 17:25 (seven years ago)

though slight shout out to “jumpsuit” for being a convincing mutemath imitation

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 18 December 2018 17:26 (seven years ago)

and for being way more interesting than all of these songs

I like "High Hopes" a lot but I'm a little puzzled as to how I missed knowingly hearing most of these.

Agree 100%

although it could be that I listened to mainstream/active rock more often when I wanted to put on commercial rock radio bc modern rock was actively turning me off more than usual xp

It’s possible I haven’t heard any of these beyond snippets of “Africa” that I only recognize because its “Africa.”

"My Blood" is certainly catchier than "Jumpsuit." It's currently #2 and will probably reach the top in the next few weeks.. look for it in the 2019 poll!

i miss collective soul

Stills buying a Ferrari in England to drive to Paul McCartney's house to impress Macca, then him standing out in the rain in a fur coat while McCartney refuses to come to the door, then giving up and leaving, then subsequently crashing the Ferrari is the greatest anecdote

CALLING IT: Weezer has a hit cover of "Southern Cross" in 2019.

i've heard two of these, "Africa" and the Portugal the Man song (which I couldn't hum right now, but they were fun live)

yeesh.

xp I think next up for Weezer is "Baby Shark", as metrics dictate

Vinnie, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 01:35 (seven years ago)

i would not call any of these good but i guess i'll vote for "high hopes"

All I know is “Whatever It Takes” was used as the theme song on Dutch TV during its coverage of the FIFA World Cup in Russia (or even for their whole “Summer of Big Sporting Events” coverage, I’m not sure. I’ve been trying hard to repress the memory). My advice, if at all needed, would be to stay well clear of that turd.

i feel like the past 5 or so imagine dragons singles have all been shamelessly written specifically to be played during sports broadcasts and/or advertising

dyl, Thursday, 20 December 2018 03:09 (seven years ago)

I thought the same thing for Muse's "Madness" during the 2012 NCAA tourney

LimbsKing, Thursday, 20 December 2018 21:50 (seven years ago)

"Madness" rules.

resident hack (Simon H.), Thursday, 20 December 2018 21:51 (seven years ago)
