If I was a POLL-pet, we'd get along just fine: the Lisa Germano album poll

Given that there's only one dedicated Lisa Germano thread which has accrued like 50 posts over the course of sixteen years, this might be a wasted effort but I had to take a shot.

I haven't listened to it nearly enough because it's suuuuuch a difficult listen but my suspicion is that Geek the Girl is her best album.

One of the few artists whose songs are still capable of delivering a gutpunch after I've heard them dozens of times. Clearly, she's incredibly underrated.

Going for the 4AD Happiness (wasn't even aware of a different version.) Never much of a John Mellencamp fan, but at least he gave us Lisa Germano, so yay Coogs.

Might as well use this space to post this amazing performance that I only saw for the first time recently (featuring Neil Finn and others):

Great idea for a poll! I love all her albums, but I'm especially a fan of the later ones. They had a unique atmosphere that I can't easily relate/compare to other artists. I'll have to listen back through them, but I'm most likely to vote for "In the Maybe World" or "Magic Neighbor".

I'm listening to Geek the Girl right now and I'd like to upgrade my assessment from 'difficult' to 'occasionally genuinely upsetting'. Like I need to pause and take a breather between tracks. 'A Psychopath' might still be the most terrifying song/recorded thing I've ever heard.

Slide, without hesitation.

this makes me so happy. that OP8 record is amazing, but I'll probably vote 4AD Happiness after I A/B the 2 versions again.

I worked with her for a short spell when I had a job in a book store in LA. She was wonderful to work with.

I'm probably an outlier but Lullaby for a Liquid Pig always sort of stuck with me.

doesn't Scaruffi rate "Geek the Girl" in like his top 5 all time?

Slide, without hesitation.

Almost went there, but chose 4AD Happiness in the end.

Love Circus was always my fave.

xpost She was in Finn's band for a couple of years, a perfect fit on keys and vox.

I'd be surprised if somebody didn't. Reminded this morning of what an astounding album it is (although emotionally akin to being dragged behind a freight train).

Slush is so good...

Yes, I probably listen to 'Round and Round' once a week on average.

Ooh, time for a re-listen. I expect it'll be Geek the Girl, although No Elephants made a big impression on me when it came out.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

oh shit, i think i forgot to vote...

I didn't see this poll ... I would have voted for Excerpts or Magic Neighbor. I think the only one I could never really get into -- as an album, even though there are a few excellent tracks -- was Slide.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Wednesday, 16 January 2019 12:45 (six years ago)

Put on the 8 minute 4ad version of Happiness last night and felt like I made the right choice.
