octo octa is the only person i can think of who is making this kind of personal, colorful, moody-ish, progressive, not-for-hetero-scenes dance music but there has got to be more of it out there. can someone point me to other producers in this vein? u.s. scenes appreciated but worldwide is fine.

i'm far from an expert on this stuff but eris drew's tracks from the split she did with octa octa are a decent place to start

Also, yeah, bumping this thread because i need more of this kind of music in my life
ooh i like that
i don't really understand the op description or title tho. i don't really know what words mean in general.
idk this tune is old and italian (?) but it is quite no-heteros-allowed

^^^ this is great. Think the thread title is asking for progressive house that sounds like early moby made by ppl who model for eckhaus latta
― plax (ico), Wednesday, 16 January 2019 12:33 (six years ago)
eris drew track very much in that vein, is also a jam.

Eep, just compared the Eris T4T to Papua New Guinea in the Tracks thread and then I come to this one and there it is again. God Within 'Raincry' seems another likely reference point.
― Twelves, Friday, 1 February 2019 01:17 (six years ago)
Totally.
Relatedly, the Hardkiss DJ mixes from the mid-90s are a pretty good reference point for this sound (or as good as any, esp. where most everyone acts like "nope none of this sounds like Bicep at all, what a ridiculous comparison").

way into the steam track that plax ico posted too.
tmi alert: i was at a bathhouse a few nights ago and the mix was not like this thread at all but i enjoyed it - kinda generic tech house working its way into diva vocals. not sure what about it i liked, i doubt the mix was that different from when i was there last 10 years ago, i think it's just a case of me just being so gay and basic and thinking that fucking along at 128 bpm to generic tech house is the best thing ever.
― macropuente (map), Friday, 1 February 2019 02:17 (six years ago)
tbh being so gay and so basic seems pretty chill. uncritical moments where you can just be in the moment is how to live

Not sure if he overlaps with their scene at all, but both sonically and politically Chrissy's 2019 album Resilience is totally on point with the kind of breaksy rave-house sound Eris Drew and Octo Octa are pushing in their DJ sets, esp. tunes like "Play Structure".

New track “Can You See Me?” from the forthcoming OO album is essentially very pretty breakbeat rave (too fast to be breakbeat house, too slow to be d&b). Seems like the new album will be rather more in your face than the last one.

Tangentially related (no techno house electro beats) but Will Long made a one-hour long ambient piece for Australian label Longform Editions and it's really good and it's really cheap for an hour of music that's obviously been quite closely worked on.
