increasingly seeming like one of my favorite albums of all time

yeah my favourite of the last several years for sure, i would have to really think to figure out the last thing i liked this much.

can't vote in this tho, paralyzing. nothing that isn't a 10 for me, or hasn't been at some point.

I think it's between Pretty Things and the last three songs for me (Haley/Mary/Black Diamonds). The last third of the album is such a great run.

spare, intimate, understated, kind of gradually exhaling itself, but also there's so much noisy texture in it (the nerve endings of guitar in "shark smile," the blown-out quality of the title track). feels like all of these songs were performed while lying down on the floor and they gathered static electricity

Pretty Things was a partial catalyst for some changes in the way I think about sex and sexuality, so that seems like a strong reason to vote for it, and it's also gorgeous.

it's all amazing, a uniquely heavy emotional world to visit. my favorite has been Haley from the jump, so devastating and ultimately uplifting with a perfectly meandering chord progression.

Listened to this on the recommendation of an acquaintance and marked it down as bog-standard indie rock; glad I gave it another pass. Voting for Mary, as simple and sentimental as a nursery rhyme but it gets me every time.

I don't really like the "rock" of masterpiece. It's a great song but I think the less distorted version they did on Tiny Desk was much better. I'm kind of glad they don't try to "rock" much on Capacity.

went with "Mary" but I love "Mythological Beauty" and the title track very much.

well haley is one of the best songs i've ever heard in my life so that one

the live "Haley" on yt where it's just the four of them in front of a wall is SO good. great harmonies that aren't on the studio vers

It’s a beautiful song. I have to admit I’m not loving this meek/wispy approach to her vocals lately, which seems to be half performance and half production. Still psyched about the record.

It befits the spirit-like feel of the song, imo, like a ghost in static. But yeah, hope she’ll mix it up on the record.

I've become obsessed with this band & this record just in the past month as a result of this thread, and I'm miffed that "Objects" didn't get even a single vote. Lyrics to that one are kind of whatever, I'll grant; but musically, it reminds me a lot of Pinback, one of my favorite bands ever to do the indie rock thing

Wow, the new album is extremely wonderful. But also quite difficult to listen to without crying.

This was firmly my favourite by this band but it's testament to them how much Two Hands has shot up so highly in my estimation. How does a band like this appear fully formed out of seemingly nowhere and deliver such a large amount of quality in such relatively little time? Not heard any of the new stuff - really hope it continues the winning streak

The back half of this album is particularly incredible... they're the kind of songs that make me go, "how did they write this?"

"Black Diamonds" may be my favorite Big Thief song of all – something about how it's semi-anthemic, but also low-key and constrained; as if they're holding it back from breaking into a full-out anthem. E.g., the shade-away-from-rockin'-out guitar in the chorus, and the entire second half of the bridge ("I could never leave him... I could never leave him...") – it's like you want to pump your fist and sing along, but they're keeping it mellow, creating a kind of tension... can't think of many songs with this feel.
