my fav album of the year i was born is XTC - Skylarking which as it so happens was produced by Todd

Amaaaaazing year. I think you captured most of my picks except maybe like Eno, Luther Thomas, and T Rex.

I don't even know how to pick one, though. Betty Davis is a strong contender. Byrd? Faust?

voted Zeppelin but aaargh already thinking maybe I should have gone with Stevie. wouldn't fault anyone for choosing Gram, Can, or either one of the Fela or Hancock options.

I was born in 1980, at the pinnacle of which I'd probably put Dirty Mind or the Pretenders debut.

Yeah I dunno how I forgot Eno or a certain Hawkwind album or The Payback or Black Beauty. That would have made a nice round top 50.

between Faust IV, Future Days, MDK, Larks Tongues, and Wizard there are a LOT of personal favorites on here. I think I have to go with Todd though, that one still sounds like nothing else. Future Days probably #2

For my year: Don't Break the Oath, Purple Rain, Climate of Hunter, Treasure... I feel like there are hundreds of interesting albums from that year that I haven't explored yet.

not really edgy since its always been known round these parts that I only liked Syd era but in the last 2 years I got into the pre dsotm era and have started to think dsotm is ok just ive heard it way too much. Still dont care for Wish You Were Here bar the same 2 songs i always liked.

Yeah, I don't care to hear it again in the near future either, it just had too formative an effect for me to view it as anything less than an unimpeachable classic.

My lists for 70,71,72,74,75 were insane.

76 was a quiet year then 77-79 are nuts. That's obviously just my own personal tastes.

There are days when I think I could restrict my musical input to the early '70s and be perfectly content for pretty much forever. I'm not sure the qualitative average of that era has ever been exceeded imho.

I might do the whole of the 70s by year then will keep me occupied for 10 weeks. 1971 is prob my fave of them all.

Yes! I was going to make suggestions for missing titles until I lost faith in my itunes year assignations (On the Corner, it turns out, is '72 not '73 as I had it), but you just named virtually everything I had in mind, India very much included.

Future Days, although I'm sure I've played For Your Pleasure the most.

i went for the roxy album. but my fave albums of 1973 are missing here. first and foremost "dark side of the moon", the one pink floyd album i would keep. the "selling england by the pound" which was my fave genesis album in my teenage years. brian eno's "here come the warm jets", an amazing stroke of genius, never has pop music been so exciting. litle feat's "dixie chicken", i have always loved their hot mix of rock, blues & folk. then their was john cale's impressionist master piece "paris 1919". not to forget neil young's live "time fades away", my favourite concert album by good old neil, it seriously kicks ass.

Tried to reply to this a couple of nights ago but my keyboard was acting weird.
Was The Sting that year? Cos i think that's one of the main musical themes in that isn't it?
I think we got a best of Scott Joplin record sometime around then and i think it was something that was being played around to some extent. So you'd be hearing it, which might mean even more than in his actual heyday.

This one was difficult, but eventually it came down to Cosmic Slop vs Innervisions, and I went with Funkadelic.

radar love was definitely the single of 1973. when that song came on in the disco everyone went down to the knees and whirled around with the hair. remember at the time boys & girls had long hair.

There is some nice psychedelic moments on Moontan, it's a pretty good LP.

Checking for Here Come the Warm Jets release date, I ended up on this page which discusses the discrepancy between the vinyl and label information, and concludes it was because of the oil crisis: https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/brian-eno-here-come-the-warm-jets-what-was-the-original-release-date.755536/. So, recorded in September, scheduled for November and that's what the first UK pressing says, but apparently no-one heard it before early 1974.
