Came across this randomly.
It talks about how seniors are choosing music/bands for proms around the NYC area in 1973.
I found some of the most amazing quotes in it.
I am not sure what my favorite is.
"Now the kids all have their pwn (sic) idea: the blacks want soul, the Puerto Ricans want authentic Latin music, everybody wants rock."
Her group was looking for “rock and soul mostly,” but Miss Johnson insisted she wanted “at least one waltz — it's a tradition to waltz at your prom.”
“There's a million dances, the names don't matter,” said Leigh Saunders of Newtown. “I make up my own, even the Lindy — updated of course.”
She suddenly made a face. “They should tone down that saxophone a bit,” she said. “The amplification isn't coordinated.”
I think this is my personal favorite: Evaluating one real band, David Bernstein of Herricks High School said thoughtfully, “They sound all right, but they're too old — there's a guy up there who's bald. I don't know if the kids would appreciate it.”
