thread of amber bain's wonderful ectoplasmic slow jams. co-production of her new album, good at falling, split between george daniel of the 1975 and bj burton who did the last two low records

the "lilo" song and video have totally ruined my life
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Sunday, 3 February 2019 18:20 (six years ago)
"Saw You In A Dream" is magnificent - think I voted for it in the 2017 poll. The EP of same name is also very good. The more recent teaser tracks haven't grabbed me as much, but I will still be buying this.
― Jeff W, Sunday, 3 February 2019 19:41 (six years ago)
really looking forward to this, feels like she's only gotten better since that initial run of EPs
― ufo, Monday, 4 February 2019 00:50 (six years ago)
I've been tracking her since the first ep in 2015, so this has been a hell of a long time coming (though if you collect all the tracks she's released so far this would basically be her second album). Of the new material, "Maybe You're The Reason" is the raddest imo.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 4 February 2019 02:08 (six years ago)
extremely psyched for this. i haven't listened to any of the EPs - just the singles in OP along with "maybe you're the reason" and they're all fantastic.

this was the highlight from her 2015 EPs iirc but it's been a while since i've listened
― ufo, Monday, 4 February 2019 15:15 (six years ago)
"Teeth" is my favorite of the old songs.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 4 February 2019 15:16 (six years ago)

Ugh all these tracks are so good, and it looks like "Saw You In A Dream" will close out the record! Looks like it's shaping up to be a standout pop record this year; I can't wait
― joshywinty (josh), Tuesday, 5 February 2019 19:29 (six years ago)
I think I prefer her overall career to The 1975 at this point - maybe not quite the same highs but a much greater consistency

― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 28 February 2019 20:22 (six years ago)
this album is gorgeous, especially love "somethingfartoogoodtofeel" and "worms" on first listen
― ufo, Friday, 1 March 2019 12:46 (six years ago)
Somehow even better than I was expecting. Between this and Solange, I went to bed last night really appreciating exquisite synth choices.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 1 March 2019 12:54 (six years ago)
After maybe the third listen “saw you in a dream” became maybe my favorite new pop song in forever. Steely Dan level on that top line ....
― Vapor waif (uptown churl), Friday, 1 March 2019 15:14 (six years ago)
fucking exquisite

"somethingfartoogoodtofeel" is what the second haim album should've sounded like
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Friday, 1 March 2019 16:05 (six years ago)
“lilo” was a song written specifically to kick my feelings in the ass
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Friday, 1 March 2019 16:09 (six years ago)
"worms" is like the 1976
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Friday, 1 March 2019 17:25 (six years ago)
The guitars in Lilo sound so much like Durutti Column.
― Johnny Fever, Friday, 1 March 2019 21:58 (six years ago)
you keep represssssing iiiiit
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Monday, 4 March 2019 19:12 (six years ago)

― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Monday, 4 March 2019 19:13 (six years ago)
I hate to be this guy but I can’t help but wish the og saw you in dream was the one on the album :/
But I can’t imagine finding a better pop album this year!
― Vapor waif (uptown churl), Monday, 4 March 2019 19:42 (six years ago)
i actually feel that, i haven't adjusted to the new version yet
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Monday, 4 March 2019 19:46 (six years ago)
i would like to reiterate: "worms"!!!!
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Saturday, 9 March 2019 14:55 (six years ago)
guitar/synth bridge in "maybe you're the reason" is my other favorite thing that happens on this record, sudden flourish of minneapolis sound
― jolene club remix (BradNelson), Saturday, 9 March 2019 15:15 (six years ago)
i cannot get over this album, sooo good. <3
― petey v, Tuesday, 12 March 2019 02:33 (six years ago)

― Indexed, Friday, 30 June 2023 14:23 (two years ago)
I'm a 1975 fan so it's not surprising but boy do I love how this album sounds -- its clarity is kind of insane?
― Indexed, Friday, 30 June 2023 14:42 (two years ago)
it's really wonderful.i wanted to cry so hard during 'over there'.
― Nourry, Saturday, 1 July 2023 21:03 (two years ago)
i love this so much
posts above are OTM - I was also struck by how much the sound of the record is very 1975 "at their very best" but the songwriting is of course entirely Bain's own.
Also I only learnt from reading Bain's descriptions of the songs that she used to date Marika Hackman. Surely we're due for another album from her soon?
― Tim F, Monday, 3 July 2023 01:09 (two years ago)
stronger than the previous album, but like that album, I think a few special songs jump out at me more than the whole thing (in this case "Sad to Breathe" particularly)
― Vinnie, Monday, 3 July 2023 12:28 (two years ago)
the lyrics in this album are really destroying me. and it's so gorgeous and well produced.
― Nourry, Monday, 3 July 2023 20:51 (two years ago)
like this more than the previous one (though "you seemed so happy" is still one of my fav songs)
― xheugy eddy (D-40), Tuesday, 4 July 2023 18:56 (two years ago)

I listened to the Tape Notes podcast about her last album, and it was the first one of these where I thought the demos they played were better than the album versions.
