I haven't had a chance to play this yet but her debut EP from 2017 is one of my favourite releases ever, incredible-sounding stuff.

boxedjoy, Friday, 8 February 2019 18:34 (six years ago)

Not feeling “Highlights” all that much, but “Paténipat” is great.

breastcrawl, Wednesday, 13 February 2019 20:44 (six years ago)

If you pair this up with the first EP you have a spectacular album, I think I prefer the songs on the first but I love her voice and how she uses it on this a bit more

boxedjoy, Friday, 22 February 2019 08:48 (six years ago)

I've blasted this EP all week.

great ep, love the final track especially

nxd, Friday, 22 February 2019 11:36 (six years ago)

Two thirds of this EP is completely sublime.

Matt DC, Friday, 22 February 2019 12:52 (six years ago)

Which part do you reckon isnt?

boxedjoy, Friday, 22 February 2019 13:39 (six years ago)

'High Lights' and 'BBC' are several levels below the rest of it IMO.

I need to check this out, "1,618" from a year or two back might be the best thing Spotify has ever algorithmically nudged at me.

Michael Jones, Friday, 22 February 2019 15:09 (six years ago)

Is her first EP the Wwwater EP or is it under her own name? Caught the end of Wwwater’s set supporting You g Fathers last year, sounded interesting.

michaellambert, Friday, 22 February 2019 18:47 (six years ago)

There's one under her own name thats self-titled. 1,618 is on that.

boxedjoy, Friday, 22 February 2019 18:54 (six years ago)

Ok, will look out for it.

michaellambert, Friday, 22 February 2019 18:56 (six years ago)

Love this one. Patenipat, Cursed and Cussed and Okashi are my favorites of this one. I think I like the past EP better but I don’t think there’s a song on these 2 eps that I dislike.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 22 February 2019 21:09 (six years ago)

bumping this because lots of folk who enjoyed her tracks placing in the 2020 ballot probably should listen to the first EP which I still reckon is better

Saw the live show a few months ago and it was the best thing I saw all year.

It is my duty to point out to all of you even remotely interested in Charlotte Adigéry that since a couple of weeks she's got her own weekly, two hour radioshow at Belgian StuBru. And my, does it bang! Her track selection is crazy good imo. Best thing is, she collects all the tunes she plays in this spotify playlist, updated weekly after the new show.

A Scampo Darkly (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 15 February 2021 12:01 (four years ago)

excellent! i like that she has 'blue pedro' on her playlist, i am all aboard with that

imago, Monday, 15 February 2021 12:52 (four years ago)

not only 'blue pedro' but 'shades' (my sadly-elsewhere-ignored #2 of 2020) and a load of other great stuff! tbf you only had to hear her EP to work out what a broad and careful listener she is

imago, Monday, 15 February 2021 12:56 (four years ago)

Yeah, she's brilliant, and a great companion as a dj. Probably the only linear radio time slot I follow religiously rn, every Sunday eve, she's the best.

A Scampo Darkly (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 15 February 2021 13:31 (four years ago)

Are the shows available on a listen-again stream anywhere? I tried and failed to find them on the website.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 15 February 2021 21:17 (four years ago)

Every record we release on Deewee is special to us because they’re born out of our genuine friendships with the artists but we have to admit we feel a little extra pride to see Charlotte & Bolis, two individual great talents and human beings - whom we’ve had the pleasure to introduce to each other literally within the walls of our studio - grow into this powerful duo and see their debut album TOPICAL DANCER which we made with them over the course of the last few years, come out today

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 March 2022 15:45 (three years ago)

Their songs are outrageously, baldly political protest music with intelligent and clever lyrics and yet they’re also all bangers. The degree of difficulty there is super high.

i cannot help if you made yourself not funny (forksclovetofu), Friday, 4 March 2022 15:50 (three years ago)

I find the humour and personality of this does so much more for me than the straightforward didacticism of eg Sault

imago, Friday, 4 March 2022 16:25 (three years ago)

I have had this on repeat, loving the punchy sparse production and as mentioned earlier, there are some great witty lyrics in there. Favourite album of the year so far.

So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 4 March 2022 16:26 (three years ago)

Dangerously so - since hearing it in the top 77 tracks playlist I’ve found myself singing it to myself.

Out of context, randomly singing ‘go back to the country where you come from’ and nothing else is a problem waiting to happen. Damn catchy political bangers.

Nice interview. Didn't know that Pupul was Kamagurka's son! (a factoid probably lost on people outside of Belgium/The Netherlands)

willem, Wednesday, 9 March 2022 11:06 (three years ago)

this really holds up to a second listen, incredibly strong album. the lyrical games it plays are both straightforwardly witty and headspinningly complex; it's rare and great to see this sort of intelligence applied to, essentially, techno bangers. but then again the bangers themselves aren't so simple either; they're playful, tuneful and the production and structures are kept constantly interesting and fresh. wheels are not allowed to spin.

this'd make for a great ilm aoty, if That Lot decide to votesplit themselves

imago, Thursday, 10 March 2022 12:14 (three years ago)

Get Me Bodied (Extended Mix), Thursday, 29 December 2022 14:36 (two years ago)

One of the late listens of the year for me.

As I mentioned to the friend who urged me to hear it, it does a very, very savvy and charming way of expressing sentiments that pop music usually is too didactic when it wants to make the same points.

live in Glasgow yesterday it felt like superstardom is in the post. It was in the top 5 wildest audience resctions I've ever seen, so much so that she was rendered speechless a couple of times by how loud the crowd were. Such a great performer (Bolis too).

stirmonster, Monday, 8 May 2023 19:17 (two years ago)

well-deserved - it was a fantastic show. I was concerned that I would be disappointed after seeing them in a tiny venue last year when they killed it and was wondering if they would manage to bring that energy to a massive festival tent but they really knocked it out of the park. Two of my pals had never heard them before and came away raving about how great it was. stirmonster the whole weekend was brilliant actually :)

boxedjoy, Tuesday, 9 May 2023 07:53 (two years ago)

also not to objectify anyone in a way but I spotted Bolis in the crowd dancing later on and he really is just an incredibly handsome man, they both just ooze star quality and charisma

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Tuesday, 12 March 2024 21:33 (one year ago)

Saw Adigery and Pupul live the other night - really excellent. They're great and charismatic performers of course, but what really stood out was how propulsive and thumpy the arrangements were over big speakers in a live setting. The sense of dynamics, especially in the lead-in to what were effectively drops, was really kinetic. The vibe of the way the songs would move in between pop songs and dance tracks reminded me unexpectedly of the last two The Knife albums (not a point of comparison I would have thought of previously).

Tim F, Friday, 15 March 2024 04:47 (one year ago)

Yeah, they make the most sense live for sure, not that the recording are bad of course.
