Best Album on My Favourite Albums of......1974

Tough one, as usual. Either The Jewel in the Lotus, Country Life or Phaedra.

Or Red.

god there's so much amazing stuff here. but i'm going for lamb lies down on broadway, without hesitation.

Notable absences - the best Hawkwind album, Hatfield & The North s/t and Lucio Battisti's Anima Latina.

After balmy '73 this year maybe has a more reflective tone. The real end of the 60s comedown vibes.

xpost yeah those are all great, especially the hatfield & the north album. re: hawkwind i'm more into warrior on the edge of time tho.

I first heard Inspiration Information when it was reissued in 2001 on a CD that also included half of Shuggie Otis's previous album Freedom Flight (including "Ice Cold Daydream" and "Strawberry Letter 23") as bonus tracks. That album would've easily gotten my vote, but without those songs I'll probably go with Gram, Gene, or Joni.

....or Stanley Clarke who I really like, but I find it hard ranking jazz albums alongside other genres; jazz is like its own thing.

Veedon Fleece is also the best Van album so yeah, weird thats not on here

I saw that Shuggie Otis CD (on Luaka Bop) for 30p recently but left it because there was a stain on the booklet and I tend not to hang onto them if they're a bit manky.

I really hope some of you check out this wonderful album which features a backing group of certain pfunk alumni inc Eddie and Bernie and the life and death suite is some of the most amazing music ever made.

Why are the King Crimson and Miles albums grouped into single options but the two Eno albums separate options? This is Red vs The Lamb vs Warm Jets for me. Might go with The Lamb for the number of times I've listened to it on long drives.

i am torn in between "here come the warm jets" and "on the beach". it used to be the former but i go for the latter now. such a gorgeous stream of melancholy.

Ultiumately, I concur, korny.

I'm torn between Zuckerzeit, which is one of those albums that I always enjoy hearing no matter what, and (kind of surprisingly) On the Beach. The Fela is once again super tempting, I probably should have held out for Confusion tbh, which is colossal.

The Jorge Ben and Harmonia albums already mentioned would be my own most important additions along with Dadawah, Peace & Love and Keith Hudson, Flesh of My Flesh Blood of My Blood. This is also a foundational year for dub (Pick a Dub, Dub from the Roots, The Roots of Dub).

Eno will get my vote for 75 so I'll choose The Lamb for 74. It still feels wrong to not click On The Beach or Court & Spark

my 75 list is currently 56 strong so will have to double up artists again.
