Hey, folks. I've haven't been by ILM in about a decade, but I figure you all are the best people to ask: Can anyone tell me more about the history of a particular style of guitar riff? It's a slow, fuzzy, retro-sounding, psychedelic, bwa-bwa-BWAA-ba-ba kind of riff. You can hear it in Anemone by the Brian Jonestown Massacre, and it sounded retro even back then, but it's there again on Bellringer Blues off Grinderman 2. It's kinda there on Young Men Dead by the Black Angels. (Links are to youtube.) If all these bands are referring back to something, what are the older versions of this kind of riff?
