TS: "Nick the Knife" -vs- "King of America" C/D,S/D

I haven't listened to either of these records in many years - but going on memory alone, I'd have to rate "Nick the Knife" as my favorite Nick Lowe record & "King of America" as my favorite Elvis Costello record.

"Pure Pop for Now People" has some fantastic hits on it and should be reissued this afternoon or sooner, but "Nick the Knife" as a collection is just about perfect.

In the other corner .. "Armed Forces" is near perfect as a complete record, but it's "King of America" where Elvis finally becomes the songwriter he's sometimes tried to be (i.e. Nick Lowe) on his previous six efforts.

I'm not drawing any parallels here between the two artists or records .. just matching fave against fave.

Not heard the Nick Lowe one, but I think 'King of America' is my favourite as well.

But the one with Burt Bacharach runs it close.

Can I change the theme of this thread to "Raise your hand if you HAVE heard 'Nick the Knife'" ? I've not heard anyone on ILM ever mention it .. just wondering ...
