I Remember Them But What Did they DO???

Last week, I was at a pub quiz where Peter André was featured in the Picture Round. I remember that he was an Australian with a penchant for removing his shirt, but I can't remember a single song title of his, or hum any of his tunes.

Are there any artists whom you remember, whilst not remembering ANYTHING they recorded?

Likewise with Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 18 November 2002 15:50 (twenty-three years ago)

"Good Vibrations"! It's the greatest song ever written called "Good Vibrations"! Apart from the other one!

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 18 November 2002 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Nope, I remember all

stevem (blueski), Monday, 18 November 2002 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

B*Witched post C'est La Vie is the classic.

I can't sing any Westlife songs even now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 18 November 2002 16:58 (twenty-three years ago)

nope. not a single second of any of westlife's 44 number one's has remained in my conciousness. that in itself takes a kind of genius i suppose.

peter andre, on the other hand, is seldom out of my thoughts.
nor bubbler ranks.

adam b (adam b), Monday, 18 November 2002 17:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Also, Capella.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 18 November 2002 17:34 (twenty-three years ago)

And Worlds Apart and Bad Boys Inc - the poor man's Take That/East 17.

PETER ANDRĂˆ !

JONATHAN RICHMANS favorite song at the time!

Jens (brighter), Monday, 18 November 2002 18:13 (twenty-three years ago)

adam b (adam b), Monday, 18 November 2002 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Warren G went from "Regulate" to guesting on a Peter Andre song within three or four years. bloody hell ...

robin carmody (robin carmody), Monday, 18 November 2002 20:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Delakota.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 18 November 2002 20:50 (twenty-three years ago)

mark, don't feel bad. i'm an australian and i always thought peter andre was actually a brit. i always struggle with paisley jingle-jangle american bands of the mid 80s. i mean, i remember let's active, del fuegos, the dream syndicate etc etc like they were popular brands of beer but i couldn't name a song by any of them to save my life.

angelo (angelo), Monday, 18 November 2002 22:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Why did the name "Richard Marx" pop into my head all of a sudden?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Monday, 18 November 2002 23:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw c'mon..."Hazard" was brilliant...

Charlie (Charlie), Monday, 18 November 2002 23:43 (twenty-three years ago)

"there's no escape from me this time / all of my refuge is gone" ... kills me, that does

robin carmody (robin carmody), Monday, 18 November 2002 23:48 (twenty-three years ago)

B*Witched post C'est La Vie is the classic.

"blame it on the weatherman"? "rollercoaster"?

I can't sing any Westlife songs even now.

"world of our own"?

Also, Capella.

"u got 2 know"? "u got 2 let the music"? "helyom halib"?

me, i'm trying but i think i remember at least one song by everyone i've ever heard of. this is a bad thing (see r.e.m., a. morrisette, toploader, all emo, the levellers)

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 11:36 (twenty-three years ago)

minna (minna), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 12:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Gene Loves Jezebel, New Model Army, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Fuel, Tad, Screaming Trees, The Spoons, The Hooters, Slik Toxik, . . . quite a lot, really

sundar subramanian (sundar), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Deon Estus, "Heaven Help Me".....

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 14:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I remember music by most of the artists Sundar mentions. My own list would include the Cool Notes, Fiction Factory, Brother Beyond and the Quireboys.

Come to think of it the only record I remember by Queen Latifah was with the Jungle Brothers and I can't remember what it was called....

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 23:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't the Beatles do something important?

Curtis Stephens, Tuesday, 19 November 2002 23:31 (twenty-three years ago)

oh damn, the only queen latifah song i can think of has a chorus where she spells out five letters, but i can't fucking remember what they are!

dave k, Tuesday, 19 November 2002 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Fiction Factory did "Feels Like Heaven": not as good as the Urban Cookie Collective one, obv

the Peter Andre song with Warren G was called "All Night All Right" and (bloody hell how do I remember these things?) lifted from A Taste Of Honey's "Boogie Oogie Oogie". it was just about the naffest song this side of 1994 NKOTB.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 23:35 (twenty-three years ago)

the only pop hit I remember Latifah having in the UK was "Mamma Gave Birth To The Soul Children" with De La Soul, in the slipstream of 3 Feet High And Rising - round about the spring of 1990.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 23:36 (twenty-three years ago)

U-N-I-T-Y!!!! ("Who you callin' a bitch????")

Queen Latifah's singles include "Dance For Me", "Come Into My House", "Ladies First", "Mama Gave Birth To The Soul Children", "Black Hand Side", "Paper", "U-N-I-T-Y", and "Latifah's Had It Up To Here".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 23:50 (twenty-three years ago)

unity!!! thank you dan! that wasn't some kind of acronym was it? i remember seeing the video as a kid and being really excited by all the cameos

sixteen years pass...

Therapy?

All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Wednesday, 24 July 2019 14:20 (six years ago)

I can never remember how their second biggest hit (Opal Mantra) goes. No probs with almost all of their other singles.

nashwan, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 15:13 (six years ago)

I never knew how I was supposed to say their name in conversation, what with that question mark.

henry s, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 15:15 (six years ago)

I recall positive feelings towards Therapy?, but can't remember anything either. There were a bunch of UK and Irish guitar bands in that late-80s that were well promoted in the US, and I can't remember much more than the ads in SPIN. Screaming Blue Messiahs (something noveltyish about Flintstones), Godfathers (Work, School, Death...and one other thing), Hothouse Flowers (jangley?), James (more C86?). I think they may have all been better than the subsequent wave of EMF/Ned's Atomic/Jesus Jones, yet I can hum bits of those.

bendy, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 15:49 (six years ago)

Therapy? were part of the EMF/Ned's/Jesus Jones wave, their first single was 1990, same as Ned's and EMF (Jesus Jones were 1989)

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 16:03 (six years ago)

I also can't remember Opal Mantra but can remember the other hits. apart from the post-Troublegum ones I have no idea about those

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 16:03 (six years ago)

Still very much going -- in fact, they never stopped! Most recent album last year:

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 16:32 (six years ago)

Jesus Jones are playing my town soon. newish venue, which has so far played host to such luminaries as the Stereo MC's and Republica. I haven't been there yet...

Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 16:34 (six years ago)

Ah, I thought Therapy? were the Undertones associated band, but now my googling has revealed I conflated them with That Petrol Emotion.

bendy, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 16:36 (six years ago)

xpost -- funnily enough I've been FB friends with Iain Baker from Jesus Jones for some time now. He's a very relaxed fellow in general, treats his career as a job with amusing moments as they go, and has also been pretty vocal about the shitshow Pledgemusic turned into, giving that situation necessary public attention.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 16:49 (six years ago)

I've looked up the lyrics and still don't remember Opal Mantra, in fact Screamager is the only one I remember with any clarity.

istr a clear change between the Wiija releases and what came after, is there any truth to my memories?

Elitist cheese photos (aldo), Thursday, 25 July 2019 08:16 (six years ago)

I could sing you the chorus of Teethgrinder and probably the entirety of Screamager, Nowhere, and Turn. Never heard of Opal Mantra. Even with the reverse binoculars of history I wouldn't lump them in with Neds etc, they were way more hard rock.

The Pingularity (ledge), Thursday, 25 July 2019 08:52 (six years ago)

xp yes the Wiiija stuff is quite different (and a lot better), Nurse and Troublegum have their moments, the album after that was horrible, never listened to anything after that
