we need a new album already!

Bee OK, Thursday, 14 March 2019 00:30 (six years ago)

Shout out to the excellent bonus track "Deja Vu"

Simon H., Thursday, 14 March 2019 00:36 (six years ago)

Zinner seems more interested in being in a Black Sabbath cover band these days.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 14 March 2019 00:54 (six years ago)

Great album but it's easily Cheated Hearts for me. That was the song that really made me a fan.

kitchen person, Thursday, 14 March 2019 01:34 (six years ago)

"Cheated Hearts," for sure.

Timothée Charalambides (cryptosicko), Thursday, 14 March 2019 01:34 (six years ago)

“turn into”, their best song and one of my favorite songs ever

k3vin k., Thursday, 14 March 2019 01:38 (six years ago)

I second that notion, Turn Into for the win

aguzman1990, Thursday, 14 March 2019 01:49 (six years ago)

this album is fuckiiiiing amaaaazing

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 14 March 2019 01:51 (six years ago)

have to listen again but could be "honeybear," "dudley," "turn into," several others

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Thursday, 14 March 2019 01:52 (six years ago)

"Mysteries" is intense.

"Cheating Hearts" gets me, though.

Let's have sensible centrist armageddon (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 14 March 2019 02:05 (six years ago)

voted turn into, their best closer. always liked this cover-- it was the winner of a fan competition to design a YYYs flag and iirc the booklet was a collage of lots of other entries.

Turn Into or Way Out.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 14 March 2019 02:46 (six years ago)

When we ran our club Clique in Manchester, i used to play Turn Into some nights, pretty early on just after the first batches of people had come in, and over a couple of years or so it became quite a 'moment' for some of the regulars. No-one else seemed to be playing it around the city particularly but it had a certain 'start-of-the-night' vibe to it that worked. We played more electro/nu-disco/mashup stuff but that song, especially when it does that slightly-freaking-out thing, was good for when you've just put your coat in, and you're about to have your 2nd drink. Anyway a couple of girls who we knew pretty well, used to dance down the front to it together, and then some years later when one of them was getting married they asked me and fellow resident NI (of this parish) to DJ the party. As the Second Dance of the night, after the traditional First Dance with the groom, the 2 girls, one now the bride and the other her chief bridesmaid did the gentle, platonic-romantic dance they used to do to Turn Into on their own, holding hands. It was a something of a magical moment for us as DJs.

So yeah Turn Into for me, definitely.

piscesx, Thursday, 14 March 2019 06:54 (six years ago)

It's Blitz is the better album by a hair, but this is definitely Zinner's peak as a guitarist. He sounds like he's having a blast throughout.

Simon H., Thursday, 14 March 2019 11:55 (six years ago)

I'm not really a YYYs fan but this is a good album. Voted for 'Cheated Hearts'.

Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 14 March 2019 12:13 (six years ago)

This is the one I listen to the least out of their first three albums, but it's leagues above the last thing they shat out. I'm actually unsure what to vote for.

Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Thursday, 14 March 2019 13:34 (six years ago)

I'm actually shocked at how much I enjoyed this. I have always thought it was the weakest record of the initial three but now I'm not so sure. Voting Phenomena as the singles don't seem to need any help.

Bee OK, Friday, 15 March 2019 15:58 (six years ago)

the weakest of the first three is fever, which is an awesome record

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Friday, 15 March 2019 16:08 (six years ago)

This album is great and it's hard to get past "Turn Into" so that.

the future is now, Saturday, 16 March 2019 19:14 (six years ago)

I've been listening steadily since the poll started. Good show.

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 16 March 2019 20:21 (six years ago)

I love watching the Cheated Hearts video.

Yerac, Saturday, 16 March 2019 21:33 (six years ago)

Karen O is such a massive performer.

Yerac, Saturday, 16 March 2019 21:33 (six years ago)

Cheated Hearts is one of their finest moments

electrobiscuit, Saturday, 16 March 2019 22:18 (six years ago)

I like the simple pleasures of Honeybear.

Big fan of this excellent record and it's "Turn Into" for me.

in twelve parts (lamonti), Sunday, 17 March 2019 10:17 (six years ago)

god the cover of their last album is one of the most grotesque things ever

in twelve parts (lamonti), Sunday, 17 March 2019 10:23 (six years ago)

boy, the sequence from "Phenomena" to "Mysteries" is a pip, isn't it?

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 17 March 2019 13:59 (six years ago)

Not sure how I got it in my head that this album was disappointing. I think maybe because I’ve never loved Gold Lion, but the rest of it is fairly scorching.

Neus Anneus (voodoo chili), Sunday, 17 March 2019 18:04 (six years ago)

Mysteries, for that freakout at the end

Neus Anneus (voodoo chili), Sunday, 17 March 2019 18:40 (six years ago)

ok so

1. i think this is their best record
2. i'm voting for "the sweets"

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Sunday, 17 March 2019 23:25 (six years ago)

this sounded better than it's blitz to me the last time i listened but it's been a little bit... "turn into" is such a massive song but i think i prefer "dudley" and "way out". the texture of the non-electric guitar instruments on this record is rly great

im voting for "gold lion" tho for having the best mic-ing of a drumset of its time

J0rdan S., Sunday, 17 March 2019 23:49 (six years ago)

I'm surprised Greil Marcus didn't expend a thousand words explaining how "Sometimes I think I'm bigger than the sound" links Karen O to the lineage of Elvis, Dylan, Robbie Robertson, etc.

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 17 March 2019 23:59 (six years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 18 March 2019 00:01 (six years ago)

I'm going to have to agree with Brad here. After listening to this album about seven times in a row, because of this poll, this is their best album.

Bee OK, Monday, 18 March 2019 20:00 (six years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Tuesday, 19 March 2019 00:01 (six years ago)

ok wow -- didn't expect this

recriminations from the nitpicking woke (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 19 March 2019 00:02 (six years ago)

This seems about right? Although I never liked Gold Lion, it always gave me Karate Kid montage vibes.

Yerac, Tuesday, 19 March 2019 00:07 (six years ago)

looks about right

"Way Out" deserved "Gold Lion"'s votes

Simon H., Tuesday, 19 March 2019 00:08 (six years ago)

and "warrior" deserved something it is a very cool song

jolene club remix (BradNelson), Tuesday, 19 March 2019 00:17 (six years ago)
