Sand - Golem and the other LPs
Quiet Sun - S/T
Eno on the early Roxy Music albums and possibly some of the early solo records?

what am I missing? I love the sound of this thing, help me find other examples. I'm sure I'm overlooking some obvious ones.

Derek Bailey
Solo Guitar (1971)

Derek Bailey plays VCS3 on a few tracks.

so are there any "destroy" entries in that RYM list or is the presence of this instrument pretty much a guarantee of quality?

also, that Tonto's Exploding Head Band record is so good, I thought it was only Moog but I guess not

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Friday, 10 May 2019 19:14 (six years ago)

jeez it's on the Third Ear Band's Macbeth OST!

really wanna hear Franco Battiato's 'Pollution' now:

- Franco Battiato / vocals, synthesizers VCS3
- Ruby Cacciapaglia / piano, synthesizers VCS3 and VCS2
- Gianfranco D’Adda / drums,
- Mario Ellepi / guitars, synthesizers VCS3, vocals
- Gianni Mocchetti / bass, synthesizers VCS2, vocals

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Friday, 10 May 2019 19:16 (six years ago)

You definitely must hear that album.

Ned Caligari (Tom D.), Friday, 10 May 2019 19:19 (six years ago)

whaat

iirc, it’s only on one track (“The Squirrel And The Rickety-Rackety Bridge”) and it’s not particularly great...or at least, for me, it didn’t live up to what I imagined Derek Bailey playing a VCS3 would be.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 10 May 2019 21:12 (six years ago)

sleeve are you into Sensations’ Fix? Cold Nose by Franco Falsini (on that RYM list) is really nice.

brimstead, Friday, 10 May 2019 21:27 (six years ago)

never heard of it! thanks!

Emperor Tonetta Ketchup (sleeve), Friday, 10 May 2019 21:29 (six years ago)

got a copy of that Cold Nose LP (the reissue on Spectrum Spools) and it sounds great. opinions seem to vary on whether it actually has any VCS3 though. I don't have trained enough ears to hear it, if it's there, I can't tell on first listen.

The three albums Ben Hillier did with Depeche Mode - Playing the Angel, Sounds of the Universe and Delta Machine - all have VCS3 all over them. Hillier has gone on record as saying it was the most used synth on those albums.

What David Vorhaus is doing with the joystick at 2:30 in this clip is very 'Didgeridoo'. Worth watching from the start for cool step sequencer action leading up to the squelch solo
