Raveena makes aqueous, delicate R&B that's not dissimilar to Corinne Bailey Rae's The Heart Speaks In Whispers, or KING's floatier moments. Her track "Honey" narrowly missed placing in last year's ILX '77.

She's just announced that her first album, Lucid, will be out in two weeks' time. There's no tracklist available yet but I presume "Honey" will be included, along with more recent singles "Temptation", "Mama", and "Stronger" (released today).
Her EP from 2017, Shanti, is also worth a listen.
Let's anticipate and luxuriate!

I didn't realise her album was coming so soon. Honey was one of the best songs of last year. Really excited for the rest of the album.

I’m Jeff W and I endorse this thread

really liked “honey,” down for this
― american bradass (BradNelson), Friday, 17 May 2019 11:52 (six years ago)
cosigned. "Stronger" is great--maybe an obvious trick, but making a song with that title so skeletal is v effective. The "Mama" video is extremely <3

Looks like none of the pre-2019 tracks are on the album.

after a couple of listens: one of the best lying-in-a-sun-dappled-hammock-late-in-the-afternoon albums ever.
― monotony, Saturday, 1 June 2019 07:57 (six years ago)
Such a gorgeous album. I would have liked Honey to have been included, but it's still such a strong album anyway.

this turned out to be the perfect record for erasing the tension caused by a crappy day

new song is really great, love the shift in the second half.
lucid was a late discovery for me last year but quickly became one of my favourites of the year. "mama" in particular is very zora's domain. super excited for whatever she presumably has coming this near

― Jeff W, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 20:03 (five years ago)
And yes, I also love the teaser song.
After all the build up here, ‘Lucid’ kinda came and went. I should have given it more of a chance too tbf.
― Jeff W, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 20:07 (five years ago)
i loved lucid, but this new song seems like she's unlocked a bit of a bounce that was absent on that album. the swirling reverie was the point of the last album, obv, and i loved it for that reason, but i'm glad she's expanding into new territory.

"Nectar" is a bubble bath made of music.

"headaches" being a two-movement suite is inspired. lush and beautiful.
― dyl, Wednesday, 5 February 2020 05:15 (five years ago)
moonstone EP is out now and is all really lovely. apart from "headaches" it doesn't really do anything more to broaden her sound but it's so wonderful anyway so she can keep doing her thing as much as she wants to
― ufo, Saturday, 8 February 2020 11:52 (five years ago)
I do really dig how "Headaches" suddenly becomes an indie-pop song at 2:49.

"headaches" is still maybe my favourite song this year
― ufo, Friday, 14 August 2020 13:12 (four years ago)
I posted this in rolling r&b, but it belongs here too (great new track):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4t37sXE_N0

^I can't stop listening to this on repeat - I think there's something wrong w/me
― babe for the weekend (morrisp), Monday, 8 February 2021 06:16 (four years ago)
it's good but i don't love it in the same way that i've loved much of her previous work
― ufo, Monday, 8 February 2021 07:21 (four years ago)
It’s not objectively exceptional but somehow it has its hooks deep in me; I have to ride it out until I tire of it somehow!
― babe for the weekend (morrisp), Monday, 8 February 2021 07:33 (four years ago)
I'm the opposite of ufo - I like this a great deal more than anything else I've heard from her
― boxedjoy, Monday, 8 February 2021 09:53 (four years ago)
Yeah, I wasn't particularly a fan before ("Headaches" notwithstanding) – but this new song seems to have been lab-grown (...as they say) to produce an addictive response in me. I'm spinning it again today...
― babe for the weekend (morrisp), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 05:51 (four years ago)
something kind of scary is I like it even more the more I listen to it... even the parts that seemed a little weak before (like the pre-chorus and outro) are now a-ok with me
it's kind of "90s," I guess, but I don't know what specifically it reminds me of. "No Scrubs"?
― babe for the weekend (morrisp), Tuesday, 9 February 2021 06:11 (four years ago)
New song! (nearly a year later) – not sure it really plays to her strengths as a singer, but I like it:

Jamming the new album (Asha's Awakening) – it's really good! Any Raveena fans left up in here(??)
― False Pretenses Lad (morrisp), Friday, 11 February 2022 17:51 (three years ago)
In the queue for later. Did like the new singles.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 11 February 2022 17:52 (three years ago)
Even the "Guided Meditation" track at the end is good stuff (the only bummer: no physical media option, or even download... album seems to be streaming-only).
― False Pretenses Lad (morrisp), Friday, 11 February 2022 18:37 (three years ago)
Not true in the US at least -- $8 through iTunes.

― Ned Raggett, Friday, 11 February 2022 20:49 (three years ago)
Ah, thx... well, I don't do iTunes. (I guess she falls in that gap of artists who are too major-label for Bandcamp, but not big enough for their label to press a CD)
― False Pretenses Lad (morrisp), Friday, 11 February 2022 21:00 (three years ago)
In any event, very nice listen all around. Didn't expect "Mystery."
― Ned Raggett, Saturday, 12 February 2022 22:21 (three years ago)
Yes! That’s a highlight

7digital is where you want to go to buy mp3s from artists that aren't on bandcamp
― ufo, Sunday, 13 February 2022 00:35 (three years ago)
this album is good but not as special as her debut
― ufo, Sunday, 13 February 2022 01:56 (three years ago)
I agree her debut is special, but it's so mellow as to be near somnambulant. I am glad she has gotten into beats & "tempo" (to a degree)
― a beneficial mulch (morrisp), Tuesday, 15 February 2022 21:06 (three years ago)
(thx for 7digital, btw... never heard of that. Sometimes I'll buy digital to "support the artist" if there's no CD option, much as I dislike MP3s)
― a beneficial mulch (morrisp), Tuesday, 15 February 2022 21:07 (three years ago)
She's back – with a remarkably lush track that's (once again) giving TLC for me, but also Prince in the middle section:

god her new record is so good, her best one yet imo. "rise", "lose my focus", "smile for me", "water", all sublime
― monotony, Thursday, 20 June 2024 05:19 (eleven months ago)
yeah she’s found a great alchemy on this one. really like “baby mama” as well, in addition to those you listed
― the defenestration of prog (voodoo chili), Thursday, 20 June 2024 07:15 (eleven months ago)
I couldn't get into her second as much, but this one is so instant. Agree that it's her best yet. It's so beautiful and has arrived at the perfect time.
― kitchen person, Thursday, 20 June 2024 14:02 (eleven months ago)
yeah this one's really nice, definitely an improvement over the second album which i also didn't like as much
