xxxp it does. the article is 90% rehashing, but includes bits from a couple of interviews with Asian artists, also interesting to see how he has tried to manage all of this using lawyers but appears to have given up.

Around the time he sued NME, Morrissey forced the Word magazine into an apology over a review that said he was “paying lip service to anti-racism while talking like an old Tory immigration spokesman”
Why in the world would they apologize for that basic statement of fact
― Sam Weller, Thursday, 30 May 2019 10:28 (six years ago)
Because libel law in the UK is ridiculous and Morrissey likes to have his lawyers send out threatening letters and as far as editors are concerned it isn't worth the hassle?

He has tweeted someone's blog post in defense of himself. It's all about veganism and shaking things up, you idiots:
In his open support for the party For Britain , (which seems to have caused the most controversy in recent years) Morrissey has explained his admiration for the party leader's (Anne Marie Water) vegan lifestyle and huge dedication to animal protection. He has long expressed how he is tired of the same two political groups running the game again and again, he wants to see a shake up in politics, as many of us do. Much of the criticism levelled at Morrissey's endorsement of For Britain stems from accusations that the party are either “racist” or “anti-Islam” (a meaningless claim when you consider that even some ex-Muslims openly support the party, and they have members of all backgrounds).
It goes on.

Morrissey sings of a fan being “vapourised” and the song ends with an unsettling repeated coda to “Go easy on the killer”, which appears to be a comment on the British justice system (the bomber Salman Abedi died on the night).
“Every major label in London has refused Bonfire of Teenagers whilst also admitting that it is a masterpiece,” Morrissey says.
With the album in limbo, things got surreal. Morrissey accused Capitol of prioritising label-mate Sam Smith’s “satanism” over his own work after Smith wore devil horns during a Brit Awards performance.

this is one of the things about him that's both hilarious and pathetic, and defines him imo -- he desires the imprimatur, he needs a label or a publisher to be vouching for him: it's really important to him (cf. his wanting, and getting, Penguin Classics to publish his autobiography, an aesthetic desire too to be sure, but there's more in there). he's not an artist for whom having made the art and put it out into the world is enough, not even if it makes money that way. he needs the organs of industry to tell him "we believe in you."
― J Edgar Noothgrush (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Thursday, 12 September 2024 13:39 (nine months ago)
which, I mean, at least in america, racists are exactly like that -- they want the press and schools and publishers to give them a place at the table. building their own table is not, for most of them, an appealing option -- they are insulted by the idea. they want the culture to validate them.
― J Edgar Noothgrush (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Thursday, 12 September 2024 13:40 (nine months ago)

― Theracane Gratifaction (bendy), Friday, 13 September 2024 16:12 (nine months ago)
this is true but it also goes beyond that for Morrissey - he also needs to be at the table so that he can flip it over and storm out in a huff when he inevitably sours on the relationship, it's critical to his self-image to have that love/hate acceptance/rejection dynamic.

― Hmmmmm (jamiesummerz), Friday, 13 September 2024 16:45 (nine months ago)
fuck racists and also... i mean i kind of understand it? i don't only want to be around and accepted by "my own kind". that's probably even more true with racists, because, i mean. racists are shitty, awful people. if those are the only people one gets to hang out with, i can see that being kind of a bummer. in this case, the reason racists wind up associating with "their own kind" is because their beliefs, words, and actions are dangerous to, like, everyone else. it's _necessary_ to exclude them as long as they're doing and promoting racist shit. i knew this lady who was like... she was raised with these right-wing conservative values and she was also a trans woman and it tore her up that she felt like she had to _choose_. and how the fuck am i gonna explain something like that? i mean she wound up going to DC on jan 6, 2021, and me and all her other trans friends stopped talking to her. sometimes people gotta give up stuff they've been taught, things they've internalized, and if someone doesn't do that, it's right and necessary to exclude them. that's what frustrates me about people who are always reaching out and trying to get the support and approval of racists. it's literally impossible to be on "everyone's" side.

"SCANDINAVIA !
The pain at not reaching Stockholm this week is horrific for the band and crew. I know it’s impossible for people to understand, but we dream of Stockholm, Reykjavik, Trondheim, Helsinki, Aarhus ... but there is no financial support from imaginary record labels to get us to such places. In the last seven days we have traveled into six countries, and we are travel-weary beyond belief. We can barely see. We pray to God that someone, somewhere can help us reach Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Denmark ... where we have thousands upon thousands of friends, yet absolutely zero music industry support. No label will release our music, no radio will play our music ... and yet our ticket sales are sensational. What does this tell us about the state of Art in 2025? I'm quite disappointed that, in addition to cancelling his concerts, he's also pulled out of an appearance on Allsång på Skansen, which would’ve been completely bizarre. It's a series of summer concerts and TV broadcasts held in a large park in Stockholm, featuring mostly family-friendly performers. They typically do one of their own songs on stage, followed by a well-known, usually Swedish, song while walking through the audience and handing the microphone to people of all ages to sing a line or two.
