one of my friends sent me this brief bandcamp writeup of meernaa the other day and i listened to "better part" and fell in love right away. lush, groovy, quiet stormy, shimmering r&bish swoons. the immediate reference points are jessie ware and emily king, but i also think this occurs in the same time-space as mr twin sister. and i only say "r&bish" bc there's a lot of genre porousness here cf. the two distinct phases "black diamond mine" goes through, one of which is a kind of motorik expressway into a black hole. the kind of record i can only imagine loving more as the year drags on, so at this point my question is "i love it but how much?" today: enough to make this thread

lol i'm really good at not typing the title of this album correctly. would it be possible for a mod to fix the title so it says "heart hunger" instead of "hunger heart"

this has been great working music today. every time I put on "Black Diamond Mine" eight minutes just vanish. there's a lot going on here in a very good way.

I'm glad you started a thread. I've listened to this whole album 12-15 times since Thursday night. Favorite of the year so far by some distance.

oh this is really lovely, feels like it's occupying similar territory to last year's Madeline Kenney album which i adored

I listened to this at work today. What a gorgeous record. Looking forward to spending more time with it.

loving the aqueous 80s r&b production

this would be so much better without the noisy guitar workouts - the end of Black Diamond Mine is just a little much, for example

That's just a nice twist at the center of the album. Without it, I think the second half would just kind of drift past.

good looking out

well now, "Ready To Break" is a damn good time, isn't it?

And then "Black Diamond Mine" omg - starts off a bit Pink Floyd and then the switcheroo, reminiscent of the 'lab playing Lo Boob Oscillator live

this is really great, glad I read this thread. More than anything this reminds me of Sensual World era Kate Bush (ala Never Be Mine, Between a Man and a Woman, Be Kind to My Mistakes).

Didn't really get the Kate Bush talk itt until Better Part

This is like if Big Thief's UFOF was engineered from the DNA of neosoul instead of folk

Vinyl was delayed, but I got my copy in the mail last Saturday and it's a beaut.
