Hmm… Basic Channel, on a bit of a whim.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 10:17 (six years ago)

Paul Chain over Goodie Mob just barely

she carries a torch. two torches, actually (Joan Crawford Loves Chachi), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 10:31 (six years ago)

Basic Channel or Tindersticks or GBV on this list

Captain ACAB (Neil S), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 10:36 (six years ago)

I feel like the right answer is probably GbV/Smog/Roy Montgomery or one of the electronic albums, but I might vote King anyway since I meant to vote for Belly's 1st album in the '92 list until it was pointed out that it was from '93 (at least, my copy agrees) and then it got 0 votes. Also, the 2nd album never got enough love, and even the 1st is I guess fading into obscurity a bit now.

(Though there is a lot of great electronic stuff here which it would be nice to see represented in the results, hmm...)

a passing spacecadet, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 10:54 (six years ago)

Basic Channel or my favourite GBV album

willem, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 11:59 (six years ago)

Voted for Alien Lanes

jakey mo collier (voodoo chili), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 12:24 (six years ago)

Oval might not appear in later years/polls, so I feel I should ensure he gets at least a little bit of love here.

Nag! Nag! Nag!, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 12:34 (six years ago)

Bruce Springsteen - The Ghost of Tom joad

I've tried so many times with this record, and I've never been able get into it. In The New Book Of Rock Lists, among the lists were "Musicians who should read more books" and "Musicians who should read fewer books." Springsteen was in the latter list: "Cut him off until his music catches up with his lyrics."

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 14:49 (six years ago)

The research/lyrics/storytelling work fine for me, but the mumbling gets in the way of them. "Straight Time" is slept on, though.

― Nag! Nag! Nag!,

Cant speak for mike but this one is the only one I own

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 15:03 (six years ago)

Some of my favorites from this year (not already listed on either poll):

The Red Krayola, Amor and Language
Whale, We Care
Chavez, Gone Glimmering
Kissyfur, Frambuesa
Sentridoh, The Original Losing Losers (disqualified, as sort of an expanded re-release?)
Number One Cup, Possum Trot Plan
Run On, On/Off (EP)

the last Berry La Croix in the work fridge (morrisp), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 17:03 (six years ago)

symbolic

american bradass (BradNelson), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 17:07 (six years ago)

Alien Lanes from this list without a doubt although my nostalgia pick would be I Should Coco.

Gavin, Leeds, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 17:15 (six years ago)

Another one:

Long Fin Killie, Houdini

the last Berry La Croix in the work fridge (morrisp), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 17:20 (six years ago)

That's on the other poll

the last Berry La Croix in the work fridge (morrisp), Wednesday, 31 July 2019 17:42 (six years ago)

For me it's 'Trace' by Son Volt.

Grantman, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 17:59 (six years ago)

Ghost of Tom Joad is Nebraska pt. 2 IMO

"Sinaloa Cowboys" is my favourite song on it

stirmonster, Wednesday, 31 July 2019 22:59 (six years ago)

Basic Channel would be the other one I would vote for besides Oval

Dan S, Thursday, 1 August 2019 00:00 (six years ago)

the last Berry La Croix in the work fridge (morrisp), Thursday, 1 August 2019 01:15 (six years ago)

OK one more bubbling under from me, then I’ll stop (it’s too good a year):

Air Miami, Me. Me. Me

the last Berry La Croix in the work fridge (morrisp), Thursday, 1 August 2019 01:32 (six years ago)

I still have Caspar Brotzmann Massaker, Oval, The Black Dog and Smog albums but think Oval is the only one of those i've listened to over the last decade.

Sod it, I'm throwing one to the first Ben Folds Five. Hugely underrated album

frame casual (dog latin), Thursday, 1 August 2019 13:16 (six years ago)

It is! I adored it at the time. I feel bad now I didnt vote for it. "Philosophy" is a great tune.

The World According To.... (Michael B), Thursday, 1 August 2019 13:45 (six years ago)

Shit I forgot what I vote for

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Friday, 2 August 2019 14:13 (six years ago)

I know Bill Callahan has done other, much better work, but... I had in my car (and I think I still have in my car!) a CD-R of that Smog album, bookended by the EPs he released the year before* and the year after**, which I practically lived in during one particularly bleak period of my life.

*: The Burning Kingdom
**: Kicking A Couple Around

Been a slow education for (bernard snowy), Friday, 2 August 2019 15:22 (six years ago)

Voted for Oval

All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Friday, 2 August 2019 15:29 (six years ago)

It feels like part of the beginning of something that is really important in the world that exists inside my head.

In 1995, I would have voted for Washing Machine/Psychic Hearts.

All along there is the sound of feedback (Sund4r), Friday, 2 August 2019 15:35 (six years ago)

Electro-pura by a pretty wide margin.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 2 August 2019 15:48 (six years ago)

Urge Overkill - Exit the Dragon is a highly underrated album

Mario Meatwagon (Moodles), Monday, 5 August 2019 01:49 (six years ago)

Captain ACAB (Neil S), Monday, 5 August 2019 07:53 (six years ago)

Menswear = one of the best things in the list

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 5 August 2019 08:05 (six years ago)

An Oor Neechy pick not mine!

The World According To.... (Michael B), Monday, 5 August 2019 12:14 (six years ago)

hah I'm joshing really, I only know the singles which were... not very good

Captain ACAB (Neil S), Monday, 5 August 2019 13:52 (six years ago)

the singles were a thousand times better than that soundgarden LP

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 5 August 2019 13:55 (six years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Tuesday, 6 August 2019 00:01 (six years ago)

think we have the 2 polls ready for 96. the bubbling under list that missed out on both is enough for a third poll but we are not doing 3 so dont ask, lol

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Tuesday, 6 August 2019 17:06 (six years ago)

This is a much weaker list than the first one, it’ll have to be Symbolic but it’s not even in my top 3 Death albums.

Siegbran, Tuesday, 6 August 2019 17:20 (six years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Wednesday, 7 August 2019 11:02 (six years ago)

I didn't vote??? ;_;

think the toledo mud hens but for twitter (Drugs A. Money), Thursday, 8 August 2019 11:44 (six years ago)
