Oh! And Helmet! Why did everyone make such a big deal about them, again?

Sort of weird to present a specific week’s chart yet with each album’s final # of weeks on the chart, peak position, and current gold/platinum awards without making mention of that.

k.d. lang's _Ingenue_ only going Gold after 90 (!!!) weeks is symptomatic of the problems in America.

Helmet were the first official industry deigned "next Nirvana" right?

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 04:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I wouldn't say Helmet invented nu-metal. Their sound had an overall smoothness that made them fairly accessible, whereas nu-metal seems to be much more syncopated, with some hip-hop beats thrown into an introduction here and there. Emotionally, Helmet were forceful but kind of cold, whereas most of the nu-metal I hear sounds like it's trying desperately with every word to get you to believe that the lead singer is really going through some hard shit, maaan.

Because in a post-Nirvana signing frenzy, Interscope Records paid them a million dollars, which was a very high dollar figure for a band with no track record. Pretty much every story published on the band in 1992-3 focused on this fact (which makes sense, because the music certainly wasn't worth talking aboot). Maybe to recoup this money Page Hamilton was forced by Interscope to play on the new Limp Bizkit album.

I was about to say. Meantime consisted of one good song in "Unsung" and a bunch of tedium.
