great grandpa - four of arrows

continuing discussion from the emo thread, this album definitely deserves one of its own. caught wind of them earlier this year when they dropped 'mono no aware,' an expansive and achingly vulnerable track that reminded me of both painted shut and full moon fever.

the rest of the album is just about as good, and is packed with baroque musical flourishes and some great gang vocals.

co-sign. top 5ish of 2019 for me.

also, imo, a major step up from their previous (first, I think) album Plastic Cough. which is very promising!

just last week they posted "new music in 2024" in IG. which is good because one of the narratives around this band has always been that they are always on the verge of breakup.

agree this is one of the best albums of recent years. i see this sentiment on twitter fairly regularly ... i think its stature has only grown since it was released, even as the band disappeared.

"doom" would be right at home on hail to the thief if there was a drum machine somewhere in there

Does anyone remember the band Annuals circa 2006 or 2007? The song "Ladybug" reminds me of them. Regardless, this album is the best.

"Task" is my favorite. The guitar tone and fiddle remind me of Big Thief but the vocal melody and bass line is poppier.
