"Good Morning, Captain" came on through my earbuds, and I had this overwhelming sense that this is just music for boys who are angry because they're not getting any.

like, not to get too patrick bateman, but i feel like a lot of incels could really relate to "i don't care anymore" by mr. phil collins
then again they could probably also relate to "satisfaction" by the rolling stones, though they'd probably prefer devo's version

Except for global's post, a lot of this seems like unpleasant projection to me but I'll try to actually engage: if "Good Morning, Captain" is the Slint song, why do you hear it that way? I find it moving and poetic. "Just music for boys who are angry because they're not getting any" is not at all what I get from an epic track inspired by "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", about a shipwrecked captain trying to reconnect with an abandoned child. It could be a metaphor and is definitely open to interpretation but I've never thought of it as having to do with sexual frustration or misogynist resentment. If you meant one of the other songs named "Good Morning Captain" then nm.

"Trying to think of songs about people who construct an identity around disingenuously blaming others for their problems..."
I like to think that Pink Floyd's The Wall features highly in the minds of the incel community.
Which is ironic, because two of the people in the band were called Roger! But not at the same time.
Also "nick mason" is a sexual term.

w/r/t DEVO, I think if the time they were at a party and some woman casually referred to them as being queer... one of the members retorted that he'd fuck her right there and then. that just seems so classically incel!

― Muad'Doob (Moodles)
look half these fuckers want to _be_ maids, and then when they figure that out they become "femcels" and they're just as fucked up, because they didn't manage to figure out the important bit. incels, femcels, whatever, hate themselves, and they listen to music about how much they hate themselves, and they blame other people for their hating themselves. i'm tired of it. i'm tired of being incel-adjacent, of running into these miserable fucked up people over and over again. most of all i'm tired of how fucking _hot_ these girls are. they're like, "oh if i was hot people would love me", and then they take estrogen and become insanely hot and it doesn't make a difference because they still hate themselves. which also means that none of them have the self-confidence to top. like no you fucking numbskull, girls don't reject you because you're repulsive, girls don't reject you at _all_, you _never leave your parents' fucking basement to talk to people_ because you're so blackpilled you've got this stupid idea that nobody's ever going to care about you because you're not a "chad".
i mean the call is coming from inside the house to a certain extent, when i was their age i was fucked up as well, i hated myself as much as any of these cocksuckers (non-derogatory) did, i just wasn't fucked up like _that_.
cuz like to these porridge-heads it's always _women's_ fault, even when they're women themselves, it's never the patriarchy or systemic oppression or god forbid WHITE FUCKING SUPREMACY, no, it's some girl's fault that they can't get over their own bullshit and learn to talk to people in "meatspace" like a fucking human being.
― Kate (rushomancy), Sunday, 16 March 2025 17:17 (eleven months ago)
"oh girls have it so easy, if i was a girl i could just stand around and look pretty and people would take care of me", oh yeah, how's that shit working out for you? find someone to give you a ride to the hospital yet? these people transition and here's the fucked up thing THEY GENUINELY ARE GIRLS, they GENUINELY ARE BETTER OFF for realizing oh hey wait i'm not a guy at all, this guy shit isn't working for me, and when they transition and don't immediately become somebody's living waifu pillow they can't make sense of it. they genuinely think they're supposed to have it easy, they don't understand that they're now openly part of a marginalized group, they're still clinging to the same fucked-up ideas that made them miserable in the first place, that they're not the only ones going through some shit and they sure as hell aren't the first. like i understand they were never taught this stuff, i was never taught this stuff, but jesus christ there is more to gender than "skirt go spinny". like, i'm not down on "skirt go spinny", i'm in favor of "skirt go spinny", but it's not the fucking meaning of life, ok?
