This is absolutely one of the top ten Manchester spawned classics of all time. New Order/Factory fans take note. And I just met a guy who has the goddamn CD single, which blows my mind cause I only ever had it on vinyl, and my copy has too many scratches to play as a DJ. I never knew it was released on CD. I think I had the 7" once, too.

i always loved the incredible contrast between how dreadful the performance is on the original (demo?) recording.. and how glorious the remix sounds..
― electricsound, Sunday, 30 September 2007 08:50 (eighteen years ago)
godlike song. coulda been contenders.

i rate the restrained but lovely cover by velocette

A COVER?!
― pisces, Sunday, 30 September 2007 12:09 (eighteen years ago)
it's on this single (the two originals are also ace but this is not a velocette thread)

I listened to the album the other day, it was mostly shit apart from this song unfortunately.
― Colonel Poo, Sunday, 30 September 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)
i imagine that would be the case, yeh :)
― grimly fiendish, Sunday, 30 September 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)
Yes, confirmed. But 'Perfume' is really terrific and "Has stood test of time". Where are they now?
― Ned Trifle II, Sunday, 30 September 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)
Colonel Poo, you're not telling us anything we might not have guessed. ;)
I'm surprised there's a cover! Must check that out.

a couple of good tracks on the album though i think. sorta WORLD OF TWIST-ish.
would you believe i actually owned that velocette record once, years ago in the dark days of post-britpop. i'd forgotten about it. don't recall the paris angels cover either.
― pisces, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah that's pretty much how I feel about Quality Street by World Of Twist too - a couple of OK songs and rest is shit.
― Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)
NOOOOOOO!!! Quality Street is fantastic from beginning to end. One of the greatest records ever!
Isn't it supposed to be reissued soon?
― Dr.C, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)
i hope so. not heard it in ages and would categorically resist slsking (as with so many albums of that time, i have it on one side of a C90) if there's a reissue on the way.
Where are they now?
prison?
― grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)
I really don't like the reissued version of this or whatever this shortened version is called "Perfume". It really takes away all the fun of the longer original "All On You" version if all the best bits are crammed together like that so that there's no rise and fall and buildup to it.
