phase fatale's new album is great, i thought i might not like it b/c apparently it's mixed to sound good at berghain, with less emphasis on mid-range, but it just sounds like good heavy shit to me idk

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 25 February 2020 03:27 (five years ago)

i also have this spotify playlist that consists mostly of this kind of thing if anyone is interested: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4cXTfXXoYv7mroJ9X1379n?si=F5_ESE-uQduUhRHMysG02A

i'm sure i'll pull stuff from this thread to add to it as well

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 25 February 2020 03:32 (five years ago)

job sifre is great cause he's willing to stray out into the edges of industrial, incorporating funkier electro or dub sounds, rather than focusing on techno

Was gonna ask about him, I love the Het Bastaan EP to death

Corduroy Stridulations (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 25 February 2020 07:34 (five years ago)

looking forward to this thread, it's a sound I like but I don't actively keep up w/ this stuff unless listening to some intermittently industrial-adjacent shows like Silent Servant on NTS counts

half these acts are new to me but am always up for new Schwefelgelb

a passing spacecadet, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 09:23 (five years ago)

xp

yes het bestaan rules, one of the EPs that really got me into this whole thing. he has a show on red light radio called antikunst that's fantastic. he and identified patient are roommates iirc, i think of them as the amsterdam young dude EBM duo

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 25 February 2020 14:45 (five years ago)

I was asking myself "what's in bounds for this thread?" and was wondering what we collectively think about this wiki entry that somehow exists without getting deleted for being a spurious musical genre page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_techno

mh, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 16:27 (five years ago)

in my mind industrial is the goth mirror universe existing parallel to balearic's all-inclusive druggy beach umbrella, and i would therefore advocate a loose interpretation of the thread's boundaries. that said i liked blawan's bohla in 2011 but i never thought aggro post-dubstep techno was v industrial, and once that wiki gets to contrasting techno industrial with industrial techno it has completely lost me

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 25 February 2020 16:40 (five years ago)

at inc miami people performed scuzzy rhythmic noise while wearing bdsm gear and i don't think they thought they were playing techno-industrial-not-industrial-techno

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 25 February 2020 16:45 (five years ago)

tried getting a friend who was into Perturbator (which is.. synth wave, I guess?) into Ancient Methods w/o much success

on the other hand, there are definitely ebm purists who have this parallel scene, at least as far as I've seen in north america, who don't like the crossover

I was attending a festival last year and was mildly disappointed when Blawan had to cancel but definitely enthused when Veronica Vasicka took over his spot

mh, Tuesday, 25 February 2020 17:00 (five years ago)

i had the same exact experience with a friend who was into Perturbator (he also likes Umberto) and have been able to get him more into EBM through Kontravoid and SARIN, he also really likes the spotify playlist that i shared above. i think the trick for converting people that are already cool with vaguely gothic electronic music is to not go too techno too fast, start with boy harsher, kontravoid, etc. soon enough they will learn to love the brutal snare+kick and forget silly melodies

if you're willing to branch out into the electro end of things, the dark melodic vibe is no better represented by Umwelt and crew.
Spectrum Data Forces - Urano (from 2010 but illustrates the point I'm getting at.) Gloom rave perfection.

Really great clanging death trance electro from Privacy - hypnotising all your bad trips recalibrating your nervous system for the new normal of the darkside — remember that Sadism is the supreme Kantian pleasure, and hence extremely adequate to our late capitalist times.

this 3-tracker from George T & Johnny Aux is my new favorite release from Optimo and their family of imprints. it maintains a consistent mood and sense of purpose across a variety of approaches that i found very impressive. packs punch. and i didn't realize there was a music video until just now. all quite fun and sinister.

ok (D-40), Monday, 10 February 2025 19:27 (six months ago)

Release number 30 from @pildorastapes - celebrating 5 years of dedication and promotion of underground music from South America and around the world.

'Anatomía del Control' brings together six exceptional tracks from artists who have been an integral part of the label’s journey. On side A, track number 1 is delivered by Happy707, the electrifying Techno Trash Jackin’ duo from Buenos Aires; the second track, signed by Argentinian artist Black.n, stands out with its powerful New Beat and EBM sound complemented by captivating vocals; and closing the side is Invalid User, co-founder of the label, contributing an impactful track filled with Noise, EBM, and Industrial influences.

On side B, Chris Mitchell kicks things off with a raw composition infused with Electro and Acid influences; the second track comes from Fillmmaker, showcasing his dark take on Electro sounds; and closing it all, Graphiel, the new alias of our co-founder and label director, delivers the final touch to this vinyl debut.
