i just saw the Opal thread is getting some hits and don't want to derail that at all but we haven't polled an album by David Roback yet. his music is so beautiful.

So, so hard. "Into Dust" floored me the first time I listened to this, and still does, but in the end the cover has meant more to me overall. 27 years later Roback's arrangement is still what I automatically play when I pick up any acoustic (and then usually "Rhymes of an Hour").

I’ve wondered if it was a drug reference - specifically the practice of using blue light in public restrooms to make injecting difficult. Apologies if “duh”.

I love every song on this album and Five String Serenade is just such a perfect cover song for this band. But it’s gotta be Fade Into You.

It’s remarkable how frequently Into Dust has been used in TV shows, movies, etc. Love the sound but not sure I would have picked it to get so much traction in media.

I prefer Among My Swan to this album. I'm also not a huge fan of Into Dust. Maybe Bells Ring. Or Fade.. of coourse

i'm trying not to vote for "Fade Into You" as i feel it will get enough love. so i'm trying to pick the second best song on this and it's still so tough to do.

I fell asleep to this album nearly every night for 2 years when I was in High School. Obvs Fade is amazing but I love almost every song on this and 5 String Serenade is a strong favorite.

i was very surprised that this one was not poll before too, i had to correct that problem with recent events.

they really do seem to be... not slept on, but like everyone loves 'em but doesn't talk about much it. probably doesn't help that they vanished at the dawn of the message board era and didn't pop up again with new material until 2013

Hmmm, tough one, I think objectively Fade into You is the one but the all or nothing nature of these polls would make it look like there's only one good track on this.
Debating between Into Dust, Sweet Mary, Blue Light and Unreflected.

yeah I think I mentioned it on another Mazzy Star thread, but after I saw them play in LA last year we went to a bar near the venue and there were tons of people complaining that they couldn't see the band or take pictures/video of the show. They got no sense of the dramatic!

Apparently it was all because of Hope's huge sense of shyness. Last year I found a vid of them playing in broad daylight, which is pretty miraculous in hindsight

i was really nice to listen to this again. i can also attest to Hope's shyness. i was at a Jesus and Mary Chain show and she was there. i went up to her and said something and i scared her to death just by talking with her, she immediately went back stage and i felt horrible. this happened at the Roxy on Sunset back in the day.

RIYL "Fade Into You", their last '90s album Among My Swan – it's a daft title but a really nice collection of songs. Having had a hit, it had a slight influence on their songwriting, I think, and there's a little change of direction towards... folk?/pop? (They were right not to want to analyze stuff too much.)

Among My Swan has as many classics as So Tonight, I think... Flowers in December, All Your Sisters, I've Been Let Down, Look on Down from the Bridge

I fell asleep to this album almost every night my senior year in HS. Also, I never knew that 5 string serenade was a cover! I'd prob have voted Fade but I love 5 String so much.

Mazzy's 5 string is probably definitive — great tune, though, kind of crazy that it is such a late-period Arthur Lee tune. Sounds like it could've been on Forever Changes.

this album had a weird trajectory ... I remember my older brother getting it around the time it came out, but it seemed like it took almost a year for "fade into you" to really take hold.

Yeah I was smitten with She Hangs Brightly after encountering "Ride It On" on a Melody Maker comp, having managed to find that record all the way down in Tasmania I had to special order So Tonight on release, and wait for weeks - it was my "special thing" ... and then one day "Fade Into You" was fucking everywhere.
