Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 21 November 2002 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

This list genuinely kicks arse, so much more than ANY of the others.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 November 2002 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

we forgot felix.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that's the first top dance albums list i've ever seen that makes any kind of sense to me. nice one.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe the, er, more limited palet allows for a better list?

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Notice the distinct lack of LEFTFIELD.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:02 (twenty-three years ago)

hurrah!

(do wish i'd gotten in with bc before the buzzer tho.)

jess (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:04 (twenty-three years ago)

The Chems are decidedly under-represented too.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:04 (twenty-three years ago)

No Goldie, no Bukem, no Grooverider, no Roni Size, no Boymerang, no Photek...

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Also YAY NO _SECOND TOUGHEST IN THE INFANTS_! Photek is a glaring omission, though.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

No Westbam, no Sven Vath, no Jam & Spoon...the Germans must feel robbed!

Siegbran (eofor), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't get in soon enough to say;

Todd Terry - To the batmobile (let's go)
Aloof - Sinking
Nuyorican Soul - Nuyorican soul
Orb - Adventures beyond the ultraworld
Soft Cell - Non stop ecstatic dancing
Various - House sound of chicago
New Order - Technique
S'Express - Original soundtrack

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Billy, "Technigue" is no. 4 :)

jess, the scion b.c. mix is in there somewhere.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:13 (twenty-three years ago)

soft cell and the orb are in there, too. it's a good list.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

has to be said that the definition of dance used here seems to be electronic music...
also,i would have included live at the liquid room by jeff mills...

robin (robin), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Dunno, Marcello has nicely flown the flag for funk and disco.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

GAH! NO PLASTIKMAN!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Duh, I just skimmed through and missed them. Todd Terry 's in as well.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

HA, id i'd been on in the last fe hours, you KNOW both Leftfield albums would be in this chart ;)

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

AND so would 'second toughest in the infants', sob

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan vs Blueski FITE

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:44 (twenty-three years ago)

to be fair this list, good as it is
is just like an extended remix
of the one in 'muzik' last january,
only no-one's said any petshopboys yet.

so. 'introspective' - pet shop boys.

piscesboy, Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

it's like the muzik list in that they share a few of the same albums, it's not their 50 plus 50 others by any stretch.

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:50 (twenty-three years ago)

It's better cos it was done here though.

Props to Matt for sticking Medicine8 down there! haha! I got my brother to copy it for me, you were dead right, it is really banging start to finish. I think it does qualify as the kind of album I was looking for on the X-Press 2 thread, I mean thank god for no downtempo tracks, no efforts at slow disco, no guest vocalists, just a sleazy filthy maggot of a record with that weirdo vocal sampling style of theirs hanging off it.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 21 November 2002 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Best comp ever = THE JOINT.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 21 November 2002 19:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Best Comp Ever-The Stanton Sessions. (well if we did a best of the 21st century then I think I'd put this down. Shame they're not very good DJs)

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 21 November 2002 19:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Stanton Sesh is fantastic, purely because it doesn't ever feel like it's ever going to let up, but I'd be willing to put a shout in for Tom Middleton's Sounds of the Cosmos from this year, or even Coldcut's Journeys By DJ. I don't listen to many mix albums, if you hadn't guessed.

Ronan - Glad you liked the Medicine8 album. I agree that the lack of guest vox is a big bonus (Timo Maas' record suffers from that a bit, shoehorning breaks into proper song structures when it should've just been an excuse to make lots of great skronking noises). Is it me, or is Mystery Murdered the best Orbital tune not to have been made by the Hartnolls?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 November 2002 20:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Sounds of the Cosmos more each time I listen. Going to see him on December 7th and I really really can't wait.

Yeah Mystery Murdered is very Orbital, I just put it on now after reading that. It's a total Orbital bassline. I need to get this on CD cos the stereo I have hooked up to my computer can't take the bass very well, for some reason. It's normally quite good but I'd love to hear this booming out from my own stereo which is pretty great.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:38 (twenty-three years ago)

The best dance albums ever are Moby's "Moby" and "Early Underground."

Got that?

Curtis Stephens, Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:47 (twenty-three years ago)

ronan, that was some funny shit on the ile thread, eh? had me laughing all afternoon. i always imagine ronan keating...;)

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 21 November 2002 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah I thought it was funny too, I watched Neighbours tonight to get a mental picture of the guy so I could be sure when I moaned about it he wasn't actually anything like me.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 21 November 2002 22:05 (twenty-three years ago)

and?

michael wells (michael w.), Thursday, 21 November 2002 22:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah it's like I said, I'm from Dublin, he's got a full on Jackie Fullerton "it's a cold night in Windsor Park as we prepare ourselves for the mouth watering prospect of Ards Vs Linfield" Northern Irish accent. I've been told I sound like Bob Geldof a few times before, which is possibly worse. But you are welcome to give me all your money.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 21 November 2002 22:15 (twenty-three years ago)

i was really glad to see "azimuth" on this list. the last rack, "my travels", lives up to the techno idea of "nostalgia for the future" better than most of the music I have heard.

is Mystery Murdered the best Orbital tune not to have been made by the Hartnolls
