"Fireside" - I love the transition of mood and tone after "Mad Sounds", and also because of the anticipation of knowing that it will soon be followed by my favorite 3-song run from any Monkeys' record. (Which I guess makes it my fave 4-song run)

I'll add that it's hilarious to me that the British music press will often call them "The Monkeys", as if a quite-famous band didn't share a similar name!

lot of solid options, kind of hard to deny 'do i wanna know' tho. will listen again, i remember loving no. 1 party anthem and arabella too.

yeah number one party anthem was my first instinct too, such a well-crafted power ballad. really presaged where he was heading with the tranquility base songs, with all these tricky little minor-major changes. i like to think the success of party anthem convinced alex to make the piano his primary songwriting instrument.

by far my favorite by these guys. just glancing at the track list i could vote for up to seven of these songs, such a strong album. going to listen again to narrow it down to one. which seems impossible at this point...

there is a reason why this album is called AM. it's all about the certain vibe at a particular time at night. which for me translate to the base sound of this album, everything is just seems so deep.

heh yes it has the atmosphere of too close to sleep but too far from bed that comes from a night of adrenaline goosed by booze and coke

i voted "snap out of it", "i wanna be yours" or "why'd...." would be runners up.

when i said i could vote for up to seven songs on this album i think i underestimated it:

Do I Wanna Know? - this is probably their best song and is their best single. it broke though America unlike anything else since the debut album. so Classic!
R U Mine? - the drumming is so unreal on this track and the song is catchy as hell.
One For The Road - this is when you start to get why this album is called AM. doing things at night that you should probably not do and then you say well why not, one for the road

I Want It All - first disappoint of the album, album filler as they call it
No. 1 Party Anthem - this song reminds me having a hangover the next day, might be slightly out of place, song is great
Mad Sounds - this songs seem like it is about passing out at around four in the morning at someones house and falling into a dream state

Fireside - so it's time to party again and its late night
Why d You Only Call Me When You re High? - classic song, again one of their best and happens to be on the same album as "Do I Wanna Know?" video is all time too like piecesx said above
Snap Out Of It - they just play so well together on this album, how many singles are on this album again?
Knee Socks - the hidden jem and my vote. that base sound has come back and drives you back into that late night vibe.
I Wanna Be Yours - solid, solid ending.

that's Tranquility Base for me but this is them at their tightest and sleekest in Rawk Mode

This album is very solid, and had to vote for "Do I Wanna Know?" Probably my most played song of that year.

I think this is their best album, the album afterwards is great but not quite as good. Love the lyrics he does these days.
