Who kicks the planet's ass more? The of Mercyful Fate, or the Magical, um... Rainbow in the Dark guy?

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Friday, 22 November 2002 00:17 (twenty-three years ago)

"Master of Mecyful Fate", I meant. Jesus Shit, why am I leaving out words all the time anymore? I better go to bed.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Friday, 22 November 2002 00:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Is there really any doubt? King Diamond would grind Dio into a pulp and make demonic tea out of his blood. Besides, Dio's music is kind of generic. King Diamond is a freak but he seems to have more imagination and fewer inhibitions--although he does have the decided advantage of his Scandanavian blood when it comes to penning extreme metal tunes.

webcrack (music=crack), Friday, 22 November 2002 00:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, but have you taken into account Holy Diver?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 22 November 2002 00:34 (twenty-three years ago)

king diamond is shorter but rjd is balder so rjd wins.

chaki (chaki), Friday, 22 November 2002 00:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Ok, maybe I didn't give Dio as much credit as he deserves...but I still think KD would eat him alive.

Besides, KD has that gruesome carnie-like face paint.

webcrack (music=crack), Friday, 22 November 2002 00:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Face paint = ICP! Arrgh!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 22 November 2002 00:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate when new messages pop up before I can respond. Makes me look like an idiot. As does myself when I leave word out of posts. Anyhow, this should be right before chaki's and right after ally's.

Or the fact that Dio signed a napkin for my USAF recruiter in a bar in Houston. It read:

John,
Love & Magic
Ronnie James Dio.

Or the fact that (now I know Ozzy was definetely the best singer for Black Sabbath, hands down, stick a needle in my eye) for "Mob Rules" Black Sabbath had a singer who could actually sing. And that singer was Dio.

But King Diamond kicks ass too, and that's why I asked that question.

the fact of being sued by kiss`s bassist for imitating his facial make-up gives hundreds of points to the beloved kinf diadmond and ends the competition.

francesco, Friday, 22 November 2002 01:01 (twenty-three years ago)

That's Gene Simmons to you, pal.

Give me a choice between pleasure and pain
I choose pain

Another day without a heartbeat
How can your heart beat
If they've taken it away
For the first time, just don't think about it
Take the water and wash your face with pain

You can take away the power
Your finest hour
It's when you laugh in their faces
For the first time just forget about it
Take a hammer and pound yourself with pain

Ooh

Bury my bones on the moon
If they never should find me it would be too soon
Give me a choice between power and pain
I choose pain

Oh, bury my bones on moon
If they never should find me it would be too soon
For the first time just forget about
Take the water and wash your face with pain
Pain
Oh just forget about pain
Forget about the pain
Pain, pain, pain, pain, pain!

-Dio, "Pain"

That's it, francesco, you lost out, man. I hereby copywrite "Kinf Diadmond" as my new stage name. Too bad for all YOU slowpokes!

I got the rockin stagename, I got the rockin stagename!!

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Friday, 22 November 2002 01:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Dio all the way.

original bgm, Friday, 22 November 2002 01:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Dio is correct. King Diamond has a flair for imagery and titles ("No Presents for Christmas," utter classic) but his singing is a laff riot. "The Last in Line" and "Rainbow in the Dark" are ass-kicking singles simply begging for hi-NRG dance treatments.

J0hn Darn13ll3 (J0hn Darn13ll3), Friday, 22 November 2002 04:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh god, King Diamond is so ridiculous, his solo albums are such cookie cutter metal concept albums. Although I confess I loved The Spider's Lullabye when I was a freshman in high school.

Also Dio was part of a record more classic than KD could hoped for, that record being Heaven & Hell (no one talks about it, why?!).

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 22 November 2002 04:59 (twenty-three years ago)

dio by TKO - "holy diver" has some great songs on it; it fucking rocks, flat-out, when it rocks whereas the king's music is far too euro-melodic, classical in inspiration, and there's his voice. extremely irritating when you're not in the mood for it, though when i am i think he might just be a genius.

your null fame (yournullfame), Friday, 22 November 2002 07:32 (twenty-three years ago)

dio has rocked for a long long time....but now its time for him to pass the torch...

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 22 November 2002 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

...to that guy in Impaled Nazarene.

J0hn Darn13ll3 (J0hn Darn13ll3), Friday, 22 November 2002 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

he has songs of wildebeasts and danger...

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 22 November 2002 14:59 (twenty-three years ago)

seven years pass...

for the record, the answer is Dio vocally, but King Diamond's music is like streets ahead of Dio (rest in peace, Metal God). I love King's voice too, it's almost like the Evil Bee Gees.

I never noticed how powerful King's goofy powerful falsetto was until he lost effectiveness with it after the turn of the century.

He doesn't get enough credit for his mean baritone growl either. It's a crime that I've never seen this man live.

melody-hating aggr0 nerd (San Te), Saturday, 16 October 2010 14:10 (fifteen years ago)

dio all the way, rainbow, elf, sabbath, the solo stuff...so much crewsh.

S Beez Wit the Remedy (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 18 October 2010 17:04 (fifteen years ago)

Dio, by a huge margin

dressed up better than anyone within a mile (Bill Magill), Monday, 18 October 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

another vote for Dio.

billstevejim, Monday, 18 October 2010 19:29 (fifteen years ago)

I can only hope that in the afterlife Dio, KD and Ozzy will be in a group called the Evil Bee Gees.

I love King's voice too, it's almost like the Evil Bee Gees.

had forgotten about this thread but was thinking something along the lines of this on the train this morning: "well, dio is the best metal singer, definitely. but king diamond is close..."

original bgm, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 15:47 (fourteen years ago)

Never understood why KD didn't just shave the mustache if he was going to wear all that makeup?

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

King Diamond es un payaso.

Monkey tennis? (Solrac), Wednesday, 14 September 2011 16:50 (fourteen years ago)
