mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 1 May 2020 17:27 (five years ago)

am i cheating by grouping pigs on the wing and dogs together? sure

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 1 May 2020 17:27 (five years ago)

kneejerk voted for "one of these days"

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Friday, 1 May 2020 17:43 (five years ago)

Atom Heart Mother

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Friday, 1 May 2020 17:45 (five years ago)

In the Flesh?

one of the best rock riffs ever, such a triumphant and exciting theme for an album that never reaches the same heights

flappy bird, Friday, 1 May 2020 17:47 (five years ago)

kneejerk voted for "one of these days"

Pretty good opening track!

The Corbynite Maneuver (Tom D.), Friday, 1 May 2020 17:48 (five years ago)

Yeah this is 'In The Flesh?' easily

pink floyd rules, btw

the grateful dead can dance (anagram), Friday, 1 May 2020 18:08 (five years ago)

one of these days hell yes

brimstead, Friday, 1 May 2020 18:09 (five years ago)

slashes doing a lot of work here, brad lol

one of these days indeed rules, but shine on you crazy diamond 1-5 rules for 12 minutes.

sleight return (voodoo chili), Friday, 1 May 2020 18:15 (five years ago)

hey i've always thought of "speak to me" and "breathe" as one thing

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 1 May 2020 18:24 (five years ago)

on early cd pressings speak to me & breathe were one track, so i'll give u that one!

can't have dogs tho

mookieproof, Friday, 1 May 2020 18:27 (five years ago)

astronomy domine in a walk (because, yes, "dogs" is cheating; "speak to me/breathe" isn't)

Kate (rushomancy), Friday, 1 May 2020 18:28 (five years ago)

voted for the best opener from the best album. which one you ask - well, ask yourself what my most vmic answer would be and it's that one

imago, Friday, 1 May 2020 18:32 (five years ago)

Shine On

Pink Floyd rules

Davey D, Friday, 1 May 2020 18:35 (five years ago)

The Endless River never happened, right?

jmm, Friday, 1 May 2020 18:38 (five years ago)

astronomy domine vs. breathe

J. Sam, Friday, 1 May 2020 18:42 (five years ago)

i just wanted animals to be a contender. "pigs on the wing" is so short :(

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 1 May 2020 18:47 (five years ago)

jokes on me though, i'm probably voting for "cirrus minor"

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 1 May 2020 18:49 (five years ago)

Shine On

Pink Floyd rules

Man this is a contender too. So good.

brimstead, Friday, 1 May 2020 18:51 (five years ago)

voted for the best opener from the best album. which one you ask - well, ask yourself what my most vmic answer would be and it's that one

― imago, Friday, May 1, 2020 11:32 AM (twenty minutes ago) bookmarkflaglink

would anyone have assumed "let there be more light" from this post

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Friday, 1 May 2020 18:53 (five years ago)

haha maybe it isn't the MOST obvious given it's only 5 minutes long, but yeah otm

imago, Friday, 1 May 2020 18:55 (five years ago)

saucerful rules. I like it better than atom heart, more, obscured, etc. I like how the cover of meddle (my fav) is kind of like looking at a region of the saucerful cover through a microscope

brimstead, Friday, 1 May 2020 18:59 (five years ago)

Voting SOYCD1-5 to undercut the edgelords. They all RULE though.

pomenitul, Friday, 1 May 2020 19:06 (five years ago)

I’d also like to point out that they knew how to close a record as well.

pomenitul, Friday, 1 May 2020 19:07 (five years ago)

you could say their sequencing RULES

mookieproof, Friday, 1 May 2020 19:09 (five years ago)

Literally and in every sense.

pomenitul, Friday, 1 May 2020 19:11 (five years ago)

Voted Obscured By Clouds, what a jam

Joey Corona (Euler), Friday, 1 May 2020 19:12 (five years ago)

Feel a million filaments (Sund4r), Friday, 1 May 2020 19:15 (five years ago)

shine on you crazy diamond 1-5 rules for 12 minutes.

aphoristical, Friday, 1 May 2020 19:35 (five years ago)

Gotta go with “Speak to Me/Breathe”. Runner-up: “Obscured by Clouds”

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 1 May 2020 20:30 (five years ago)

1. one of these days
2. (tie) astronomy domine (live)/shine on u crazy d
4. speak to me/breathe

mookieproof, Friday, 1 May 2020 20:39 (five years ago)

always had a major soft spot for "let there be more light" because side 1 of saucerful of secrets is so much better than i was led to believe as a kid the 'early stuff' is post-syd

reggie (qualmsley), Friday, 1 May 2020 21:41 (five years ago)

Led to believe by Pink Floyd themselves.

The Corbynite Maneuver (Tom D.), Friday, 1 May 2020 21:44 (five years ago)

I first heard Cluster One years after the album came out and found it quite moving - like, it’s pretty second-rate, but after the overblown & vibe-free Momentary Lapse era just hearing them play like they were listening to one another was really nice.

Having said that, I voted for Atom Heart Mother.

umsworth (emsworth), Friday, 1 May 2020 21:45 (five years ago)

was robyn hitchcock's solo piano "astronomy domine" linked on here? or was that just on tyler w's blog? anyway at this point in his career he's probably played it more times than pink floyd... i have a good tape of the soft boys doing it with gilmour on guitar as well.

gary lucas does a pretty good version as well.

Kate (rushomancy), Friday, 1 May 2020 22:36 (five years ago)

voted for In The Flesh? but it's a genuine squeaker over Speak to Me/Breathe

Bougy! Bougie! Bougé! (Eliza D.), Friday, 1 May 2020 22:42 (five years ago)

None of these are top PF for me but gotta go with Diamond

A True White Kid that can Jump (Granny Dainger), Friday, 1 May 2020 22:47 (five years ago)

Cirrus Minor is lovely, one vote for that

Josefa, Friday, 1 May 2020 23:45 (five years ago)

Actually, the first song on The Wall is "Outside the Wall," though it's not listed first.

pplains, Saturday, 2 May 2020 00:56 (five years ago)

My initial thought was "One of These Days" but, even though it's by no means a favourite track of mine, "Astronomy Domine" is just such a brilliant way to start an album - and a career.

The Corbynite Maneuver (Tom D.), Saturday, 2 May 2020 01:03 (five years ago)

arnold layne also a fairly brilliant way to start a career

Kate (rushomancy), Saturday, 2 May 2020 01:55 (five years ago)

Yep, great music video, too.

pomenitul, Saturday, 2 May 2020 02:00 (five years ago)

because of the Syd connection, for me, this has to be "shine on you crazy diamond pts 1-5."

Bee OK, Saturday, 2 May 2020 02:27 (five years ago)

Easily astronomy domine

Deflatormouse, Saturday, 2 May 2020 02:53 (five years ago)

one of these days

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Saturday, 2 May 2020 03:08 (five years ago)

i hear there's some sort of syd connection with "astronomy domine" as well

Kate (rushomancy), Saturday, 2 May 2020 03:09 (five years ago)

Ha

Bee OK, Saturday, 2 May 2020 03:14 (five years ago)

One Of These Days is such a jam.

But Astronomy Domine is one of the greatest opening tracks on any record ever so.... eat it, Meddle.

The little engine that choogled (hardcore dilettante), Saturday, 2 May 2020 04:49 (five years ago)

voted dogs because it's their best ever moment even though voting for it is clearly cheating

ufo, Sunday, 3 May 2020 09:26 (five years ago)

I also cheated, otherwise One of these Days.

Nabozo, Sunday, 3 May 2020 10:13 (five years ago)

Astronomy Domine is one of the greatest songs of all time so this is an easy one for me. The way it basically invented space rock buys still totally rocks. The guitar is just killer.

dan selzer, Sunday, 3 May 2020 21:54 (five years ago)

The Ummagumma version of Astronomy Domine is so fucking great.

Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 3 May 2020 23:59 (five years ago)

If you're counting Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts II through V as part of the opener, it's this definitely.

in twelve parts (lamonti), Monday, 4 May 2020 14:49 (five years ago)

three weeks pass...

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Monday, 1 June 2020 00:11 (five years ago)

a lot more love than i was expecting for "ummagumma"

budo jeru, Monday, 1 June 2020 00:13 (five years ago)

stirmonster, Monday, 1 June 2020 00:43 (five years ago)

ja mann

dumb joke sry

budo jeru, Monday, 1 June 2020 00:47 (five years ago)

ah, ok.

i love ummagumma.

stirmonster, Monday, 1 June 2020 01:20 (five years ago)

a lot more love than i was expecting for "ummagumma"

Hey, where was Sysyphus Pt. 1?

Hideous Lump, Monday, 1 June 2020 01:26 (five years ago)

... on the part of the album that isn't the opening track ?

take it up with brad if you feel otherwise

budo jeru, Monday, 1 June 2020 02:33 (five years ago)
