"Black Parade" is almost exhausting (perhaps "exhaustive" would be more appropriate) in its denseness and I absolutely love it.
I'm not even going to try to do this song justice but you can talk about it (and speculate about a possible new album) here.

All I want to know is, will she be the savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned?
― MarkoP, Monday, 22 June 2020 02:19 (four years ago) link
this song is great, idk why no one's talking about it. doesn't matter how high you raise the bar, seems like Bey always delivers. the lyrics are so dense with allusions, just a masterclass.
― Evans on Hammond (evol j), Monday, 22 June 2020 14:05 (four years ago) link
probably a combo of protest song saturation and the overall decline of the beyhive

For example, I posted that three minutes ago and I remain unmurdered.

The song is good? idk, I feel like I have used up my personal allotment of Beyonce Interest and no longer feel compelled to have an opinion on new music by her.

surprised board is quiet on this but putting it on now
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 26 June 2020 15:21 (four years ago) link
DJP summed it up for me. It's good, even excellent, but I don't find it thrilling like I might have a few years back
― dip to dup (rob), Friday, 26 June 2020 16:47 (four years ago) link
I think it's a great song and after listening to it I have gone back to check out some of her lesser-known earlier work.
― peace, man, Friday, 26 June 2020 17:08 (four years ago) link
lol I know you aren't going "you know what, this 'Single Ladies' song is catchy" but that's the image that popped into my head
― shout-out to his family (DJP), Friday, 26 June 2020 17:09 (four years ago) link
I was being tongue-in-cheek, of course. But although I've checked out most of her albums to some extent, I probably haven't given her the attention she deserves.
― peace, man, Friday, 26 June 2020 17:23 (four years ago) link
she's got a bright future ahead of her
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Friday, 26 June 2020 17:27 (four years ago) link

Yeah I'm surprised the reaction here has been so cool.
― Tim F, Wednesday, 15 July 2020 02:53 (four years ago) link
it's a rly good song and i'm glad when i hear it but she needs to put out a rly bad song every once in a while to remind us that she is indeed flawed. i'd even take a great song disguised as a bad song like "7/11"
― dyl, Wednesday, 15 July 2020 02:58 (four years ago) link
“Spirit” was pretty bad.

I mean, maybe?

i would have thought at least some of it would have been shot as early as last year, i'd expect a decent enough lead time for this sort of project?
― ufo, Thursday, 23 July 2020 22:30 (four years ago) link
that was my thought
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 23 July 2020 22:35 (four years ago) link
percussionists at the start are masked so definitely some contemporary
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 23 July 2020 22:37 (four years ago) link
they shot this 3 weeks ago it seems :/
the girl who choreographed and organised this is 14 though, which makes it hard for me to get too mad? i hope they're all okay

black parade is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard
― surm, Friday, 24 July 2020 15:29 (four years ago) link
So I'm confused - this thing coming tomorrow night/Friday - is it gonna come with an actual album that one could stream/buy or is it just gonna be the visual album on Disney+?

From what I’ve understood:
the LiON KiNG: the GiFT <<>> where Beyoncé meets with Afropop
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Thursday, 30 July 2020 05:07 (four years ago) link
A year after the release of her executive produced ‘Lion King: The Gift’ album, which featured a number of Africa’s best musical acts, Beyoncé has just announced that she will be releasing a visual album titled ‘Black Is King’ based on music from last year’s album.
― No mean feat. DaBaby (breastcrawl), Thursday, 30 July 2020 05:08 (four years ago) link
oh lol i thought this was a full new album, had completely missed that it was based on the lion king album
― ufo, Thursday, 30 July 2020 05:11 (four years ago) link
looks like the companion album is just a deluxe edition of the lion king: the gift that doesn't have the film dialogue snippets and has "black parade", an extended mix of "black parade", and a remix of "find your way" added on at the end
― ufo, Friday, 31 July 2020 05:27 (four years ago) link
Are we, like, ever actually going to get a legitimate new Beyoncé solo album at this point
― josh az (2011nostalgia), Friday, 31 July 2020 06:58 (four years ago) link
It's a reverse-race between Beyonce and Rihanna as to who can delay releasing a new album for longer.
― Tim F, Friday, 31 July 2020 07:44 (four years ago) link
i mean this is pretty much her saying the gift was a proper new solo album even though it doesn't quite feel like one
― ufo, Friday, 31 July 2020 07:56 (four years ago) link
Ah Rihanna, I had almost forgotten her as a singer ! Somehow it feels longer than 4 years since her latest album. Does she even care about music nowadays ? It seems she's more interested in her brand.
― AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 31 July 2020 08:05 (four years ago) link
the "already" video is out. my enthusiasm for this isn't huge given there's not any new music attached, but her videos are always something to behold

So just to clarify, The Gift: Deluxe is the soundtrack of a short film based on the soundtrack album of a musical film that was based on a stage musical that was based on an animated film?
― vision joanna newsom (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 31 July 2020 12:36 (four years ago) link
wait no it's not based on the musical at all, so it's Lion King (1994) > Lion King (2019) > The Gift > BLACK IS KING > The Gift: Deluxe
― vision joanna newsom (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 31 July 2020 12:44 (four years ago) link
again, we have a whole thread for it already:the LiON KiNG: the GiFT <<>> where Beyoncé meets with Afropop
