Weak POLLS - the Napalm Death albums poll

about time we polled the entire discography proper. i'm gonna have to listen to it all again to decide. I didn't include live albums, and I only included EPs that were major EPs but I'm sure someone will have a grievance with me.

I was really into Fear Emptiness Despair at the time, but I'm not really familiar enough with their work as a whole to confidently vote for it.

chap, Saturday, 18 July 2020 15:01 (five years ago)

that one's aight. it has "Twist the Knife (Slowly)". that' the only song I remember

Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Saturday, 18 July 2020 15:03 (five years ago)

I definitely won't be voting for Scum or FETO. I love both of them, but they're too obvious, and between the two, FETO's the only one I listen to often.

I think it'll be between Enemy, Time Waits for No Slave, The Code is Red, or Apex.

Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Saturday, 18 July 2020 15:09 (five years ago)

I have only heard literally one second of this band’s output but their album titles are definitely getting funnier.

Evans on Hammond (evol j), Saturday, 18 July 2020 15:34 (five years ago)

write-in vote for peel sessions

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 18 July 2020 17:17 (five years ago)

which i know isn't the point of this poll but still

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 18 July 2020 17:17 (five years ago)

from enslavement to obliteration is definitely >>>>>>> scum

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 18 July 2020 17:18 (five years ago)

I didn't realise quite how far from them I'd fallen - just in terms of how many albums I've not heard a note of. Of the ones I have, probably Utopia Banished.

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Saturday, 18 July 2020 17:25 (five years ago)

Lol i almost added Peel Sessions for you, Brad. Should have :(

Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Saturday, 18 July 2020 17:26 (five years ago)

for a band with so many lineup changes their album titles are admirably consistent

k*r*n koltrane (Simon H.), Saturday, 18 July 2020 18:09 (five years ago)

they haven't really had that many in a while, other than Pintado departing and dying, and Mitch Harris being MIA for a bit.

most of them happened in their first three years of existence.

Apex Predator has a riff that sounds like the Inpector Gadget theme

Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Saturday, 18 July 2020 18:52 (five years ago)

this might be Enemy or Apex for me. idk....Hererra's blast beats, and the production on them make everything sound thunderous. Barney's roar is getting blunted with age, but he still sounds massive.

Mitch Harris is a killer riff writer, hooky but savage.

really need to revisit Utilitarian, barely remember that one even though it was the first ND I bought!

Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Saturday, 18 July 2020 18:53 (five years ago)

Utilitarian is really good. Amazing that it took until 2014 for John Zorn to make a guest appearance on one of their records.

I ranked all their albums for Stereogum back in 2015, and at the time, listening to them one after another day after day, Time Waits For No Slave wound up at #1. It's an incredible record - check it out if you haven't.

but also fuck you (unperson), Saturday, 18 July 2020 20:12 (five years ago)

heh i re-read your rankings not long ago which prompted me to listen to it. I didn't love TWFNS on first listen, but on revisiting, it blew me away. idk what my issue was with it the first time

Lady Antibody (Neanderthal), Saturday, 18 July 2020 20:16 (five years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Thursday, 30 July 2020 00:01 (five years ago)

decibel's reissuing most of their catalog on vinyl! I ordered the newie and Time WAits for No Slave...

XVI Pedicabo eam (Neanderthal), Thursday, 30 July 2020 00:14 (five years ago)

I haven't heard all of the mid-late 90s stuff but for me they've been on a roll since The Code Is Red

I'd still like to hear their pre-Hatred Surge tapes but they are impossible to find, not even leaked on P2P anywhere (Hatred Surge itself has been bootlegged) - of course that is pretty much a different band, most/all gone by the time Scum came out

CP Radio Gorgeous (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 30 July 2020 07:26 (five years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Friday, 31 July 2020 00:01 (five years ago)

one month passes...

new one has a lot of like, industrial, 80's goth, outside influences on it, Killing Joke too...just like "Logic Ravaged by Brute Force".

"Contagion" is fuckin' dope even though you might blink when you hear the first minute of it.

origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 04:51 (four years ago)

ZERO GRAVITAS CHAMBER RIPS

origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 05:03 (four years ago)

holy fuck Barney goes ham at the end here

origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 05:05 (four years ago)

i haven't heard this half of the album yet

origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 05:05 (four years ago)

omg Fluxing of the Muscle YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS that tremolo riff at the near 2-minute mark

origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 05:08 (four years ago)

this is their most...melodic album in decades?

origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 05:08 (four years ago)

the dog i'm watching is mad i won't come to sleep cos I'm more interested in Napalm Death

origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 05:08 (four years ago)

"Amoral" is basically like Killing Joke

and it's dope

origami condom (Neanderthal), Saturday, 19 September 2020 05:12 (four years ago)

one month passes...

the new one is so great. just got my vinyl copy.

I have NO FUCKING idea why I used to say Time Waits for No Slave was my least favorite of the 21st century. this might be the most aggressive fucking thing they have put out. got a vinyl copy of it from Decibel as well, which came with a NAPALM DEATH BUMPER STICKER.

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 02:55 (four years ago)

Barney's voice is definitely aging as evidenced by listening to how unhinged he sounds on TWFNS but I hope to death I could scream like he does when I'm his age.

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 28 October 2020 02:55 (four years ago)

two years pass...

Enemy of Music Business still hits it for me.

but the last album gets better and better each time.

wonder how much longer they got in them.

stank viola (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 2 November 2022 20:46 (two years ago)

Seriously. I almost went to see them a couple of weeks ago, but *I* didn't have it in me!

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 2 November 2022 21:23 (two years ago)

I'm going tomorrow. Sigh, weeknights
