I had never heard of this band, but read a few glowing reviews of this new one - it is very good. (I see they've only been mentioned twice before on ILM, on a few 2019 best-of lists.)
Can't pin down what exactly their sound reminds me of (and I'm usually "good at that"). There's maybe something "80s" in the clear, reverb-y guitar, and throwback-y song styles... like they could have been on the "poppier" side of the SST catalog (with The Leaving Trains, etc.).

Or maybe a K Records kind of vibe, like Beat Happening.

took a minute to get my brain working but I realized I saw them open a show a while back. They were fun, and definitely had a bit of Beat Happening going on to my ears too.

I was the source of those 2019 mentions. Glad this album is getting noticed.

On one level, I guess the guitar reminds me of nothing more exotic than Real Estate. I like this more, though!

How is there not more on ILX about this band? There's a new album out, POETRY, and boy is it hitting as rainy-day listening right now. Don't know how to describe this, maybe sort of like Jesus and Mary Chain but much more quiet? But it doesn't really sound like the actually quiet songs J&MC put out?

Yeah, "Bad Love" is the song that first grabbed me (I may have encountered this on an ILX EOY poll?)

Bad Love is great, and that album (Blue Skies) remains my favorite of theirs. But the new album is also really good, as is Flower of Devotion.

They kick ass live, great presence and the drums sound massive… this was like more than a year ago, tho
