“woman of a 1000 years” definitely

brimstead, Wednesday, 19 August 2020 23:24 (four years ago)

probably maybe my favorite kirwain song? such a dewey morning song. aching solo by welch. superb arrangement

brimstead, Wednesday, 19 August 2020 23:26 (four years ago)

Bought this and three other early ones in close proximity last year. I'll have to give it another listen in the car.

clemenza, Wednesday, 19 August 2020 23:26 (four years ago)

future games

ciderpress, Thursday, 20 August 2020 00:42 (four years ago)

One of my favorite activities in the world.

Impossible to decide between Woman of 1000 Years, Future Games, or Sands of Time. This is the Obscured by Clouds of Fleetwood Mac albums.

i was thinkin about voting for sands of time

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 20 August 2020 00:51 (four years ago)

so much greatness in this one. listening now to the live version of "future games" from waterbury '72, wonderful stoned hippie rambling intro from bob on that one. "show me a smile" such a great christine mcvie song too. obscured by clouds comparison on point!

Kate (rushomancy), Thursday, 20 August 2020 00:56 (four years ago)

This is my favourite of the pre-B/N FM albums but I'm gonna have to think about my choice for a bit.

Tim F, Thursday, 20 August 2020 01:16 (four years ago)

Same, but Bare Trees has gotten close recently and I haven't really listened to Mystery to Me much yet.

trunk's full of pearl and lonestar (PBKR), Thursday, 20 August 2020 01:23 (four years ago)

What I love about Future Games is how mysterious it sounds.

trunk's full of pearl and lonestar (PBKR), Thursday, 20 August 2020 01:28 (four years ago)

Never listened to this before but i was smoking a bowl in my backyard so i threw it on. super nice. the other old mac i’d heard was bluesy but woman of 1000 years is like british simon n garfunkel

flopson, Thursday, 20 August 2020 07:05 (four years ago)

Yeah i feel like the key tracks on here are the "i can see through time" consume too much horseradish and roll around in the heather vibes of "woman of 1000 years", the title track, "sands of time" and (in some ways) "show me a smile".

Tim F, Thursday, 20 August 2020 07:10 (four years ago)

I love the title track so much, maybe Bob Welch's best

Coincidentally I just got new headphones (no herb, unfortunately) and have been going through the Mac catalog chronologically, just played this the other night. "Woman of 100 Years" for me, but it's a wonderful listen start to finish, influenced by Crosby-Stills-Nash to my ears, and yeah maybe Pink Floyd as well.

Orson Well Yeah (Dan Peterson), Thursday, 20 August 2020 20:15 (four years ago)

Woman lost a 0.

Orson Well Yeah (Dan Peterson), Thursday, 20 August 2020 20:16 (four years ago)

I ended up voting for "Show Me A Smile"

love this

brimstead, Thursday, 20 August 2020 20:22 (four years ago)

The fade-in on Sands of Time is like witnessing a shimmering sunrise just coming up over the horizon.

trunk's full of pearl and lonestar (PBKR), Thursday, 20 August 2020 22:49 (four years ago)

On a beautiful summer day on your vacation - good times are ahead.

trunk's full of pearl and lonestar (PBKR), Thursday, 20 August 2020 22:50 (four years ago)

Listened to this yesterday for the first time (I only have a compilation of early FM I bought years ago when I became infatuated by "Albatross") and yes, so much greatness. "Woman of 1000 Years", title track (especially), "Sands of Time", and "Show Me A Smile" are all A+. Really love "Morning Rain" as well, it reminds me an awful lot of VU's "What Goes On"!

willem, Friday, 21 August 2020 07:58 (four years ago)

I was in the car for a few hours yesterday, so gave it another listen. I thought it was okay--nothing knocked me out like, say, "One Together" from Kiln House. To the extent that it most points in the direction of where they moved onto, my vote would go to "Show Me a Smile."

You shouldn't drive while high.

I twisted my fucking knee on the dogwalk and it really hurts, I have it on ice and I am gonna get baked and put this on right now

sleeve, Saturday, 22 August 2020 01:20 (four years ago)

This is the Obscured by Clouds of Fleetwood Mac albums.

great comparison

I get total 1968 Fairport Convention vibes from Woman Of A Thousand Years

sleeve, Saturday, 22 August 2020 20:35 (four years ago)

title track all the way

PaulTMA, Saturday, 22 August 2020 20:42 (four years ago)

I'm starting to be swayed to "Sands of Time".

1. That fade-up is just joyous.
2. The shift at 1:37 where the song takes.
3.

We will go right down to the sea
Bathing in light we will be free to wander

4. Guitar solo.
5. What a groove.

The only thing possibly holding me back is that it stalls a bit and the song sort of peters out in the last minute.

four weeks pass...

I woke up the other day and had a little guitar figure annoyingly stuck in my head for a several hours and then suddenly realized it was the post-chorus guitar in Sands of Time at 2:40 and 3:40.

James Gandolfini the Grey (PBKR), Sunday, 20 September 2020 15:15 (four years ago)

I've only half-listened to this in the past. It's great, Sands of Time especially.

I think Midlake may have heard this record once or twice.

Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Sunday, 20 September 2020 16:11 (four years ago)

Show Me A Smile. One of the best songs Christine McVie ever wrote and sounds like proto-dreampop. It’s also the one that better predicts the future of the band.

No mentions of Sometimes yet and that one is also pretty good. Probably my third favorite after Sands of Time.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Sunday, 20 September 2020 16:34 (four years ago)

Almost literally: am I crazy or is the "shine me light" section of Show Me a Smile very similar to the chorus of Spare Me a Little of Your Love?

James Gandolfini the Grey (PBKR), Sunday, 20 September 2020 17:14 (four years ago)

that live at the record plant 74 disc is really good, I am getting more into Bob Welch now.. “angel” is hella sweet

Ended up voting for Sands of Time, but there are no losers here. Surprised that Show Me a Smile beat Woman of 1000 years.
