ok, out with it, what's yer favorite driving music

there's been a tape in my car for months and I'm still not tired of it... a mix of la dusseldorf, harmonia, neu, and cluster. I don't think I could make a better tape for driving.

but I'm sure you people could, so let's hear it!

If you're in the Midwest: Bruce Springsteen, Nebraska.
If you're in the Northeast: Bon Jovi, New Jersey.
If you're in the Southeast: Lynyrd Skynyrd, (pronounced leh-nerd skeh-nerd)
If you're in the Northwest: Nirvana, In Utero and or G. Gordon Liddy's radio show.
If you're in the Southwest: Pixies, Bossanova or Camper Van Beethoven, Key Lime Pie or Marty Robbins or the Grateful Dead.

Anyone who doesn't say AOR as an answer to this question loses all respect from me. The Connells, Del Amitri, Lloyd Cole... this stuff sounds shit in all other settings, but in the car... RAWK.

My two favorite driving tapes are:

1. Lightning Bolt, Daughters, Portraits of Past, Palatka / Arab on Radar, Embassy, Merel, Iconoclast, Against Me

2. Palatka, Assfactor 4, I Hate Myself, Sleepytime Trio / Men's Recovery Project, Rain Like The Sound of Trains

Dom you need to start listening to Irish radio!

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 23 November 2002 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually Girls Just Wanna Have fun was the last song I really really turned up the radio for, mainly cos my U2 loving mate fucking hates any non U2 music and I'd just had an argument about how I switch stations incessantly while driving. I said it was my car and he could take it or leave it. It wasn't a serious argument.

Tears For Fears Everybody wants to rule the world
NEU!

brg30 (brg30), Saturday, 23 November 2002 22:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Well the easy thing to say is any Krautrock band. Neu!, Cluster, Kraftwerk, etc.

But I like to play music that is somewhat hypnotic during a long drive. Portishead, Sparklehorse, Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Giant Steps is an excellent midnight drive record. Archers Of Loaf are good too.

If you want a speeding ticket, then "E-Musik" by NEU! is the way to go. Oh, and Coil.

eight years pass...

I've got to drive about 800 miles in the next few days (Exeter to Loughborough and back, Exeter to Falmouth and back, Exeter to Cheltenham and back). Luckily I have a very nice new car in which to do it.

But what should I listen to while I do it?

Definitely the new PJ Harvey and British Sea Power. XTRMNTR. Red and Blue albums by The Beatles. But what else?
