movies of white kids who like rap

office space is the best one i can think of but it might be the worst for this genre or whatever, anti-hiphop dudes can still laugh at michael boltons racial hypocrisy and plus, ha ha, dude only likes rap cause hes named after a lame singer, right!! anyway underneath that bullshit its obvious that everybody else in the movie loves hiphop and it is full of great songs even if thats now the one geto boys track everybody knows instead of mind playin tricks which is its superior

bully was by the guy who made kids, its better than kids i think and it has the boy who played josh in ghost world and bijouuu philips and macauley culkins wifey who is really cute i think, they listen to lots of rap in it but its kind of in a mocking 'isnt it sad' social decline way especially since they end up killing a dude!! the best rap moments are the opening scene with jt money and when josh ghostworld tries to keep up with the video edit of forgot about dre, it also has odbs last great song it and some other good ones i cant remember

black and white was pretty good i guess, its difft from the rest of these because it actually had lots of dudes from the rap game in it, mostly rae and his supreme cream dream team or whatever but the rest of wu too, its also got bijouuuu philips and its sort of like bully but more glam and like a actual music video, and mike tyson is in it

i mean white hiphop peoples are a huge culture to be referenced in film so little and then only insultingly like the weedhead brother in meet the parents

s trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 23 November 2002 09:31 (twenty-three years ago)

"michael boltons racial hypocrisy"

What hypocrisy? I don't recall his character making any statements that could be considered 'racist.' Please explain.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 23 November 2002 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

in the first scene he turns down the radio and nervously locks his door when he sees the black dude selling flowers next to the road

s trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 23 November 2002 09:56 (twenty-three years ago)

ah yer right. Forgot about that. I think that just makes him more of a wimpy slave to stereotypes than necessarily a "racist," but I see your point.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 23 November 2002 09:59 (twenty-three years ago)

What about Seth Green in uh that Jennifer Love Hewitt movie in which he played the essence of [/wigga]?

bnw (bnw), Saturday, 23 November 2002 12:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Or Vanilla Sherbert from Fear of a Black Hat?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 23 November 2002 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well of course there was that flick a couple years back, "Whiteboys", which I personally didn't think was very funny, and was about as insightful and accurate as the aforementioned Seth Green character in "Can't Hardly Wait", but still it took the whole concept/stereotype to somewhat interesting extremes. but i wasn't feeling it personally.

"Zebrahead" owns this thread.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 23 November 2002 15:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Whiteboys is hilarious, fitting in the `so bad its funny` category

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Saturday, 23 November 2002 17:55 (twenty-three years ago)

How about La Haine aka "Hate", which doesn't just include a white kid who likes hip-hop, but a French white kid who likes hip-hop.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 23 November 2002 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

For an early example try "Body Rock" starring Lorenzo Lamas as Chilly Dee. The video box claims the movie is Rapstravangza! but there's relatively little rap in it. It opens with five or so white guys and a little black kid (arguably) pop-locking around NYC with spray paint cans. Then they write their names on a subway car and the cops chase them away. It seems this posse is the hottest thing in the underground rap world, and the fancy club people decide to steal Chilly Dee and make him sing songs from "Staying Alive." But when they take him to a gay bar and a spindly old dude tries to kiss him, Chilly gets pissed and they ruin him. So then he must return to his Wrecking Cru and take over the club or something.

It's a ripe slice of hell, but if you wanna see white people lovin' the rappity rap this is possibly the earliest, most painful example.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Saturday, 23 November 2002 18:17 (twenty-three years ago)

nate why does a french white kid that likes hip-hop more ridiculous than an american one?

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Saturday, 23 November 2002 18:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't say it was ridiculous. Hell, I could've been implying that it was SUPER AWESOME.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 23 November 2002 18:27 (twenty-three years ago)

but rap is quite popular in france

boxcubed (boxcubed), Saturday, 23 November 2002 18:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes. That is the awesome part.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 23 November 2002 18:56 (twenty-three years ago)

ilm has nothing for me

s trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 23 November 2002 20:03 (twenty-three years ago)

and then only insultingly like the weedhead brother in meet the parents

You're saying this particular type is overrepresented? Or that you don't like him and would therefore rather not see 'im?

J0hn Darn13ll3 (J0hn Darn13ll3), Saturday, 23 November 2002 20:07 (twenty-three years ago)

i like in ghost dog when the old italian is rapping flavor flav in the bathroom

chaki (chaki), Saturday, 23 November 2002 20:09 (twenty-three years ago)

well no of course that represents a lot of heads its just that it seems in the film like the music is secondary to their caricature, office space is really the only one of these that seems to get it near right, id like to see a royal tenenbaums type movie about peoples lives and shit only soundtracked entirely with hiphop, luke wilson could cut his wrists to 1 800 suicide then gwen paltrow could change from everyday struggle to me and my bitch on the ready to die original vinyl!!

s trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 23 November 2002 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah ghost dog is ill but again its played for laughs!!

s trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 23 November 2002 20:15 (twenty-three years ago)

what about boiler room?

boxcubed (boxcubed), Saturday, 23 November 2002 20:22 (twenty-three years ago)

i didnt see it but i thought it just had like divine styler on the soundtrack, even ned loves him

s trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 23 November 2002 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

simon, the tenenbaums approach is pretty rare though for ANY kind of music, where film-makers like know the music in their bones, so well that their use of it works the way yr talking about

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 23 November 2002 20:44 (twenty-three years ago)

s trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 23 November 2002 20:53 (twenty-three years ago)

boxcubed (boxcubed), Saturday, 23 November 2002 21:32 (twenty-three years ago)

hes not a gaffer hes a g a f fer!!

s trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 23 November 2002 21:37 (twenty-three years ago)

even ned loves him

Er, meaning?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 23 November 2002 21:38 (twenty-three years ago)

ned would you call yourself a rap kid

s trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 23 November 2002 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I do have a shirt that says 'pop kid' -- though it is now eleven years old.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 23 November 2002 22:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Nate sez:

How about La Haine aka "Hate", which doesn't just include a white kid who likes hip-hop, but a French white kid who likes hip-hop.

Actually there is no white kid who likes hip hop in that film. There is an African, a Jew, and an Arab. The only French characters were the cops, the art gallery people, and the skinheads.

Mike Taylor (mjt), Sunday, 24 November 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jews aren't white? Well damn.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Sunday, 24 November 2002 01:21 (twenty-three years ago)

they're all french

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 24 November 2002 01:25 (twenty-three years ago)

God damn it, Mark stole my line.

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 24 November 2002 01:42 (twenty-three years ago)

there's a white guy in barbershop! a lot of his bits are for comedic effect (not that lots of the black characters' aren't), but at the same time underscore positively points about race that the movie was making. and at the end he reconciles with his antagonist in the shop, when the antagonist recognizes that the guy's identity is legitmate.

before he got out of his ride in his first scene I couldn't see and I was surprised and thought em was in it! which says things.

Josh (Josh), Sunday, 1 December 2002 07:21 (twenty-three years ago)

About a boy.

They literally are kids, though - I think they were 12...
