I've found I've liked each CMAT song slightly less than the one before it, but that 'Another Day (kfc)' song is amazing. Also I have not listened to the new one that closely yet.

I genuinely think she's a genius

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 22 July 2025 22:06 (six months ago)

It’s probably actually translated somewhere online by now but initial part in Irish is like

Cad is gá dom a dhéanamh mura bhfuil mé ag bualadh leat?
“What am I to do, if I’m not meeting you?”

“Tá ceann folamh agam, yah, agus pearsantacht nua”
I have an empty head and a new personality/persona? (Side note, “folamh” pronounced “full of” is pretty funny for meaning ‘empty’ but sounding like the opposite meaning)

“Eirím níos dofheicthe, is tú imithe, ó mo shaol”
I become more invisible, you’re gone from my life.

“Níl aon rud fágtha sa scátháin”
There’s nothing left in the mirror.

“An mbeidh mé álainn mhaol?”
Would I still be beautiful bald?

I saw her last summer at a festival and Yorkshire and she said ‘as we’re in Yorkshire this song was inspired by the moors’. Familiar opening to ‘Wuthering Heights’ kicks in. I roll my eyes, why are you going there? Four minutes later, oh god, that was the most amazing thing. On team CMAT from then on.

There is an early Stereolabness to Jamie Oliver Petrol Station that I am finding very pleasing.. And there's a kind of euphoric longing to a lot of her songs that's in the same register as Real Lies except instead of blurred and gone it's sort of sharp and kicking

user gyac sent me this incredible moment. I love how CMAT has apparently become a national treasure??

i was not expecting her to remind me so much of pulp?

ufo, Monday, 8 December 2025 13:08 (two months ago)

Pulp?

colonic interrogation (gyac), Monday, 8 December 2025 15:00 (two months ago)

the obvious one is "jamie oliver petrol station" which is like 50% "common people" but the title track is the one that first made me think of pulp. broadly it's a similar enough melodic sensibility, the conversational vocal style, and the production's sense of artifice?

ufo, Monday, 8 December 2025 16:07 (two months ago)

Fair enough
