POLLHALA: The People's Pop Hall of Fame

Tom has been running a series of monthly pop music polls on Twitter under the handle @peoples_pop; you may have seen some of up posting various matches on ILM threads here and there in hopes of driving turnout for a particular artist (thanks again for all of the "Lemme Smang It" votes). Songs that make it to the final 8 of a month poll are enshrined in the hall of fame and excluded from nomination consideration for future polls. Tom's keeping a list on Freaky Trigger and I decided it needed a corresponding Spotify playlist:

This is going to sound weird, but that playlist is kind of... TOO good? Like, of course you want the songs on a playlist to be good, but there are a lot of different ways a song can be good, the joy of a perfect pop song is the way it comes out from the background and GRABS you, like -- oh, NOW it's on, NOW it's happening -- and you don't want to be grabbed like that every three minutes for an hour, it isn't right.

I’m really happy “I’m every woman” in on that list

that is a hard chorus to sing ime

I guess it’s her going down a whole octave from “i’m” to the second syllable in “woman”. and the wild bend she does when she sings “meee” that sounds physically impossible? there’s like a small subtle quarter second downward bend she does before doing the slow upward bend thing. like a it’s so awesome. and moving.

Was bummed that my nomination of 'Aa Dekhen Zara' didn't make it further through the duets, but pleased it got a lot of love anyway.
