Saw Ex-Models/French Kicks/Dismemberment Plan last night, and it was insane. People dancing on stage, lead singer of D.P. sitting on a Canadian guy...

What the craziest/best one youve seen?

2 weeks ago I saw Blue Bob (with David Lynch) and Beth Gibbons (Portishead) in Paris. It was crazy because I had a pass, so after the show I went in the backstage and I actually met these guys! Never did that before.

Trying to think of the best free show I've seen, hm...Melvins at noontime in UCI was nutty, even if I only heard it (it was impossible not to).

My brother has a band called Bunny Brains and they are always my favorite shows. Sometimes I dress up as a witch or whatever is appropriate and join in on the fun. Their last show in Philly was amazing. They had a homeless woman join them onstage and she sang the most most beautiful version of Amazing Grace I have ever heard as the band gradually got louder and louder behind her. All in the midst of strobes and smoke machines. They then played 45 minutes of pure noise and rock dementia. Just wonderful.I always feel so close to my brother when he's playing live to a befuddled/amazed crowd.Plus, they always play with cool people that I end up loving. The list is endless.

I saw the D-Plan show in Chicago the nite before, and honestly I was kinda disappointed. It was the fifth time I'd seen them and they were a little low on energy. First time I saw them was in Bloomington, a free show. Maybe the best I've seen.

Ex Models were amazing, tho. And did Travis ever fix his keyboard?

Jonathan Richman, Sleater-Kinney, Atmosphere: have never seen anything less than a terrific show by any and frequently have seen GREAT ones (and I've seen LOTS by all)

Men's Recovery Project backed up with the Rah Bras was amazing. Seeing Lightning Bolt and The Locust play back-to-back last summer made my year. Neptune & Fat Day did this tag-team thing at one show where they both set up, and traded songs. That was keen. Fat Day's viking opera show was outrageous. Saw Diamanda Galas once, doing "The Singer" type stuff, which I love.

I saw the posters for that show and almost went just because I like the french kicks, but I did something else instead. Now I'm sorry I didn't go, but I guess you can't catch every show.

this past July I saw VHS or Beta at casa del popolos in Montreal. It was about 110 degrees inside and jam-packed with people, the music was totally high energy and the crowd was super live. Everyone was way into the music and dancing like a crazy mob. I actually sweated through my jeans and through the leather belt I was wearing. For about $5 it was one of the best shows I've seen in ages.

Unfortunately they've been to Detroit twice since then and played to some of the weakest crowds I've ever seen, which is a shame because besides being good musicians they are quite nice and friendly and are getting a bit defeatist about Detroit. I don't mean to denigrate my hometown in any way, but I think sometimes people here have trouble realizing that there are any bands besides Detroit and NY bands.

Reading Festival Friday 25 August 1989. The line-up was as I recall:

New Order
Sugarcubes
House of Love
Swans
That Petrol Emotion
My Bloody Valentine
Spacemen 3
Gaye Bykers on Acid

I could live without GBoA and TPE but still one hell of a line-up.

Man or Astroman had a TESLA COIL! Now that's entertainment!

Ween. I've seen them play FOUR encores in one show, for which the tickets were $12...they had no set-list, they just got drunk and asked the fans what they wanted to hear.

I think the one dude in front who yelled "Hot For Teacher" and got a riproarin' version of it might agree with me.

And I've seen VHS or Beta about seven times now (twice at outdoor raves), they're one of my favorite live bands. I love how their whole set is one continuously flowing-into-the-next piece of music.

Reading Festival Friday 25 August 1989 [...] one hell of a line-up.

Yeah! My 1st day at a festival evah! As I recall it, MBV managed to do the "yeah, but imagine how intense it'd sound in a small, packed, dark club" trick in a field! A half-filled field! In broad daylight!

Nice blue searchlights during "True Faith" as well, I seem to remember.
