While I am on a roll with Detroit song writers, how is Rosie Thomas?

I used to have a french class with her in Highschool. I heard she put a record out on subpop, is it any good?

It's great, actually. She's walking the same path as Sarah McLachlan or current Emmylou Harris, but with a lower studio budget.

(I went to HS with her and was friends with her brother, fwiw. Which I guess is nothing. Still haven't heard her recordings but she has a fab voice.)

it's fine. i don't listen to it much. i would recommend seeing her perform, she's really funny. it's difficult (and entertaining) to reconcile her speaking voice with her singing voice.

i didn't know she was from detroit, i thought she was from seattle

you can get mp3 of two dollar shoes on sub pop site

two dollar shoes is soo lovely.

the whole album is really nice. not listening to it as much as i was before (which was lots and lots). beautiful, and more, um, nuanced than Sarah McLachlan.

seven years pass...

Corny and indie though it may be, I just heard "Why Can't It Be Christmastime All Year?" and love the hell out of it.
