i think Underworld pushed the formulae of their music to the limit but managed to make each album distinguishable and individual enough by bringing in newer elements each time to compliment the more predictable aspects

discipline, beat, three of a perfect pair - king crimsonI was introduced to this music by an older girl who lived up the street from me. I had never heard their previous indulgent prog crap at the time and enjoyed the new wave sound very much. This group incorporated so many influences into their music that I was constantly impressed with every listen. The interplay between the musicians on the first album blew my mind. The majority of Beat was much more straightforward with a post-punk sound (it remains my favorite by the band). The final album was all over the place with an experimental edge dominating the proceedings, yet the poppier tracks are even more melodic than on other albums.
