been listening to this a lot lately, and i'd forgotten how hard it goes. it's overlong, like every rap album from this era, but the first 7 tracks are relentless.

i guess "in da club" will probably walk this. you never know.

man could make an argument for about ten tracks off this pretty easily. listened to it a bunch again a couple years back when it hit its 15th anniversary.

current fav non singles are:

gotta make it to heaven
heat
blood hound
poor lil rich
what up gangsta

and my fav single currently is many men. still always happy to hear any of the singles tho, including in da club.

"many men" is a perfect song. otm about the singles. i can't believe "what up gangsta" was never released as a single, tho as the lead track from a massively popular album, it's close enough.

i've even re-discovered my appreciation of "patiently waiting" after growing sick of it during its initial run of heavy hot 97 airplay. their dynamic is really interesting, classic brains and brawn team. or maybe both are brains. or neither are. on second thought, 50 and em have the same dynamic on that song as joe pesci and daniel stern have in home alone.

"21 Questions," which I had on my year-end list, used to crack me up. It was so sensitive.

i found 21 questions hilarious at the time, and still do. “I love you like a fat kid loves cake”

Unbelievable that the next album was such a drop in comparison

i know he didn't invent the phrase, but this album was the first time I heard the line "they say I walk around, like I got an S on my chest"

Unbelievable that the next album was such a drop in comparison

― candyman,

It's not a drastic drop-off tbh
