prepared to be the only person who participates in this poll, but i had the idea for it after hearing echoes of neon ballroom in the new black foxxes record. my parents bought this record and smash mouth's astro lounge for me for my 12th birthday and only one of them was a masterpiece. the scale of "emotion sickness" still hits me in the same way it did when i was kid—i had no idea rock music could do that (mellon collie and the infinite sadness was my favorite album at the time yet its orchestral grandeur was kind of limited to "tonight tonight" which was also certainly not a multi-part six minute epic). all of the non-singles are extremely worthy, though—i will prob vote for "paint pastel princess" bc it is just beautiful

thank you "spawn again," you are my least favorite song here but at least you invented vegan grunge

Oh man, I loved this album when it came out. Got me through a lot of dark nights. I don't think I've heard it in more than a decade though. I think I would need to revisit it before I can vote, otherwise I'd just take the easy way out and vote for "Emotion Sickness". Brad otm with the scale of that one.

I like "Emotion Sickness", despite hating the title lol

at this point i find daniel johns' unwavering terribleness as a lyricist kind of impressive

i LOVE "miss you love" so much, especially the crunchy meta-grunge part of the second verse

Everybody on the 16-node BBS Live Chat i regularly participated in when Silverchair arrived used to incessantly quote "Israel's Son".

If someone came up to me on the street and said "Hate is what I feel for you/And I want you to know that I want you dead" I'd probably laugh and resume eating my chalupa

I feel like this album is where the orchestral, for lack of a better word, reach matched up nicely with his overwrought lyrics in a way that served them both.
