I'm guessing this might appeal to a limited audience here, but I've really been getting into Tuluum Shimmering this year. I've found this stuff to be an absolutely wonderful balm this year, hearing his super patient and meditative takes on classic rock songs, stretching out well worn melodies to a near breaking point. This year the guy behind Tuluum Shimmering has been taking requests for covers, so far he's taken on Miles Davis' "Black Satin", America's "Horse With No Name", The Byrds' "Eight Miles High" and a suite mixing the VU's "Sister Ray" with the Dead's "China Cat Sunflower". Understandably people might balk if they just look at the song choices and track times, but it's probably not what you'd expect. I haven't yet heard his recent album of original material, Flowers of Daybreak, but I'm planning to pick it up tomorrow for Bandcamp Friday.
A nice write up from Aquarium Drunkard.

Cool, glad you like it! I can see how this might not be for everybody, but it hits a really sweet spot for me, especially this year.

So far, it's The Necks meets Spacemen 3 meets William Basinski. Or something. What's not to like!?
Have you checked out his original work? Any favourites?

haha, this has always seemed like something I'd love in theory, but I've never quite connected. listening to the "heart of the sun" now though and it is sounding pretty sweet.

xpost - Honestly I haven't! The covers have been coming so quickly this year that every time I plan to go backwards, there's another new one. I am going to buy his latest one for bandcamp Friday tomorrow though.

always felt like this is made for jeff conklin to put on if he needs to go to the bathroom or get some food or something during his show

He's put out some big 5-disc releases! Anyway I still haven't finished this one track... Will definitely buy a few of his covers - perfect for lockdown walks.

This kinda reminds me of higher-tech John Oswald's Grayfolded:

It's entirely likely I first heard about this stuff from him, so fair. It's def not something I would seek out all the time, but Duke otm, this has been absolutely perfect for the long autumn walks I've been taking when I can't decide what else I want to play.

I loved last year's These Flowers in Dawn's Twilight at Illusion Temple. Glad to see there's an infinite amount more where that came from.

the album art is great on this request series.
musically i've found the "covers" to be enjoyable. reminds me a bit of the dick slessig trio version of "wichita lineman" — a sort cut to the heart of the material, and then an intense focus, a meditation that expands the meaning of the song, using just a minimum of sonic material, until something new and revelatory happens, all while staying true to the spirit of the song. super simple and super great imo

Bird Song is one of my big albums this year. 60+ mins of being fully submerged toes first into sonic gorgeousness

Bird Song was the one I randomly picked to check out last night and after a super stressful workday I had a fantastic time listening to it, sitting by the fire sipping a drink and drifting along with the sounds, wonderful stuff, will definitely be checking out the rest

I haven't played it yet, but there is a new hour long track up, Brown Rice. Which I'm assuming is a Don Cherry cover.

Been meaning to bump this thread for a minute, but Tuluum Shimmering is back to the long, meditative covers for now.
Since the last bump he's done Pearls Before Swine's "Translucent Carriages", Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" and Steve Hillage's "Aftaglid". I think "Translucent Carriages" is my favorite of the recent three, but they are all good.
