It's a genre I've been getting into recently (thanks to Hood), but I know fuckall about it. Anyone got any starting points?

I've said it before, but: Max Tundra, Capitol K, Four Tet, Squarepusher, Cornelius, Funkstorung, even Bjork.

Some will doubtless argue about the authentic glitchness of some of the above...but still, all have had albums in the last 18 monthsish, and all are very good indeed.

Callum, tread carefully. Some of this stuff might actually be dance music.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 24 November 2002 22:02 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah maybe you should stick to hood you know theyre also are the only good rap act ever with those sweet anticon guest verses

I love the Mouse on Mars records Instrumentals and Glam. Very different from most of their output and I wish they'd taken this direction even farther. The Lithops records are nice too, but not quite as nice.

The Clicks & Cuts series on Mille Plateaux is the place to start. There's a new one out, which I've not heard. This is the thread where someone will tell me whether I/we should buy it.

Adam A. (Keiko), Sunday, 24 November 2002 22:44 (twenty-three years ago)

And Oval make the most beautiful music ever.

Adam A. (Keiko), Sunday, 24 November 2002 22:44 (twenty-three years ago)

s trife (simon_tr), Sunday, 24 November 2002 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Adam A. (Keiko), Sunday, 24 November 2002 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

the hood lp is the only anticon i've actually liked!

As in, you genuinely enjoyed this or just liked the music DESPITE the presence of anticon? I thought their guest spot was pretty pointless, myself.

I likes the new one v. much. especially All - "All Music".

There's excellent glitch from Los Angeles, believe it or not. Namely:
DNTEL ["Life is Full of Possiblities" = my favorite glitch album ever] and Daedelus [his spelling].

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 25 November 2002 02:12 (twenty-three years ago)

B-b-but their names sound so Old World, in a missing-vowel/Greek myth kind of way.

Curt (cgould), Monday, 25 November 2002 02:17 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah, I'm going to start a glitch outfit called "dpthng".

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 25 November 2002 02:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I've got Plug Research on line 3 holding for you.

Curt (cgould), Monday, 25 November 2002 03:46 (twenty-three years ago)

The new clicks and cuts is good because it finally bypasses across-the-boards clinical minimalism for a more diversified and evocative blend of individualized hybrids. It's a much more integrated glitch sound being mapped out (in microhouse, ambient, co-opted 2-step/pop rhythms, etc. + embraces vocalists) which is thankfully anti-purist and often rewarding.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 25 November 2002 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait so if I like those weird sounds on Vespertine I should get one of these records?

Sean (Sean), Monday, 25 November 2002 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Couldn't hurt!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 25 November 2002 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

If you like the weird sounds on Vespertine you should get some Matmos records.

hstencil, Monday, 25 November 2002 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Matmos.
