There we go.

paolo, Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:50 (five years ago)

Thanks paolo!

stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:50 (five years ago)

I voted predictably, but I sure do love Stolen And Contaminated Songs almost as much as any of these

howls of non-specificity (sleeve), Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:51 (five years ago)

i have an eternal fave but also another 4 that could potentially usurp it. i shall start cogitating...

stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:52 (five years ago)

Stolen And Contaminated Songs being one of those!

stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:52 (five years ago)

love's secret domain

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:56 (five years ago)

with a "would've considered voting for backwards"

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:56 (five years ago)

Horse Rotorvator will probably get it but

Stolen And Contaminated Songs
Musick to Play in the Dark Vol. 1
Scatology
Love's Secret Domain

are all up there.

stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 18:59 (five years ago)

Voted Ape of Naples because it is to me the purest distillation of everything that makes this band special, but tied for second are Horse Rotorvator and MTPItD Vol 1.

If "Batwings" was on MTPInD Vol. 1 instead of Vol. 2 that might edge out Ape of Naples, but then again, maybe not.

Eager to see the poll results!

I'll confess I never really "got" Scatology or Time Machines (and I've definitely tried!).

Paul Ponzi, Thursday, 31 December 2020 20:03 (five years ago)

musick 1

imago, Thursday, 31 December 2020 20:04 (five years ago)

I'll confess I never really "got" Scatology or Time Machines (and I've definitely tried!).

i feel the same about Time Machines and have also tried repeatedly. maybe if i still liked tripping? i wonder if i'd like Scatology if i had come to it later? i bought it on release and it was a HUGE part of my formative teen years. My house is even called "The Solar Lodge" with a name plate and all. :-)

it's rough and they are still finding their way but it was like an electric shock when i heard it. "At The Heart Of It All" woould be up there in my all time

stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 20:22 (five years ago)

...Coil tracks.

stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 20:22 (five years ago)

Voted Time Machines without thinking, on first listen I was as transported as I’ve ever been by a piece of music, and it had a lasting effect on my tastes afterwards

Was so stoked to experience the Drew McDowall live revisit from a couple of years ago

Possibly not a great example of Coil qua Coil I guess? I vastly prefer the later period stuff, Remote Viewer and The Ape of Naples are both right up there for me.

the least famous person you were surprised to discover (emsworth), Thursday, 31 December 2020 21:33 (five years ago)

Some days Ape Of Naples is right up there for me too.

stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 21:52 (five years ago)

side poll? Moon's Milk would probably walk this

The Angelic Conversation
Unnatural History 1
Unnatural History 2
Unnatural History 3
Moon's Milk
Live 1
Live 2
Live 3
Live 4
Megalithomania
ANS
And The Ambulance...

...

Swanyard

Astral Disaster Sessions 2
Backwards

Moon's Milk or one of the Unnatural Histories.

stirmonster, Thursday, 31 December 2020 22:13 (five years ago)

Time Machines is magikal. It’s the one I listen to the most as I frequently have it on low volume while I sleep. It was also the first Coil CD I managed to find in a record shop. It’s my favourite but not necessarily their “best”. Moon’s Milk might be their peak.

I am using your worlds, Friday, 1 January 2021 08:25 (five years ago)

After we’ve done this can we have a Coil tracks poll?

I am using your worlds, Friday, 1 January 2021 08:26 (five years ago)

I can't possibly choose between the main albums/periods, I can only exclude some of them (queens, restitution, new backwards) - side albums I'd probably go for And The Ambulance right now

StanM, Friday, 1 January 2021 08:49 (five years ago)

Moon’s Milk for me absolutely!!

SQUIRREL MEAT!! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Friday, 1 January 2021 09:34 (five years ago)

MTPITD1 for me but then again I've only heard about five of these #coilnoob

paolo, Friday, 1 January 2021 11:45 (five years ago)

Should probably listen to all of them before voting in my own poll tbh tbf

paolo, Friday, 1 January 2021 11:46 (five years ago)

LSD. Add me to the list of those that never really got Time Machines.

Well *I* know who he is (aldo), Friday, 1 January 2021 16:50 (five years ago)

two weeks pass...

Time Machines is great! Very reminiscent of Soliloquy For Lilith

paolo, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 14:52 (five years ago)

I've been through all of these and there's no real duds in my opinion (apart from maybe Worship The Glitch).

paolo, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 14:55 (five years ago)

I'll still be going with one of Ape of Nape or MTPITD1 for my vote I think. Stolen and Contaminated Songs, Thousand Lights, Time Machines, Remote Viewer, Black Antlers and New Backwards not too far behind. I can appreciate Scatology and Horse Rotorvator but they're a wee bit too intense for me right now.

paolo, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 14:58 (five years ago)

I can recommend this Best Of comp for newcomers by the way

paolo, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 14:59 (five years ago)

'What's your favourite Coil album?'

'Tough one. I think I'd have to say The Best Of Coil.'

paolo, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 15:05 (five years ago)

Very reminiscent of Soliloquy For Lilith

Funny. I love Soliloquy For Lilith and am agnostic on Time Machines. I had forgotten about this poll so thanks for the reminder.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 20 January 2021 15:55 (five years ago)

Yeah I think I mentioned in the general Coil thread how those Russian compilations are great for those like me who find a whole album's worth of Coil a bit much.

xp

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 30 January 2021 00:01 (five years ago)

I just realised the other day that the vocal on Triple Sun off Ape of Naples is saying 'then I swallowed the one you bury'. I thought he was saying 'then I swallowed the whole of the aquarium' :(

paolo, Saturday, 30 January 2021 11:44 (five years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Sunday, 31 January 2021 00:01 (five years ago)

top 3 looks about right to me

Paul Ponzi, Sunday, 31 January 2021 00:06 (five years ago)

Went with The Ape of Naples because it's the one I've spent the most time with, but there's loads of these I've still to hear. Was quite tempted to vote for Stolen & Contaminated Songs which I only heard last week & was really impressed by.
Of the others that I'm familiar with, A Thousand Lights In A Darkened Room, Musick To Play In The Dark Vol 1 & Horse Rotorvator I think are all great. Worship The Glitch is the one that hasn't quite clicked for me so far. Definitely a group to explore more.

Mr Andy M, Monday, 1 February 2021 20:02 (five years ago)

Oh damn I missed this. Would have voted Black Antlers
