Come Together

Imagine writing a song which is vastly inferior to a very famous song called Come Together, and naming it Come Together. This has happened several times.

The OG is undeniable.

pomenitul, Sunday, 14 February 2021 20:50 (four years ago)

Beatles: excellent
Spiritualized: quite good
Blur: good
MC5: bad

Halfway there but for you, Sunday, 14 February 2021 21:32 (four years ago)

I like the one from the Beloved.

Far too many times to note I'll be listening to the classic rock station and think they are playing the Beatles version until I discover it's the Aerosmith version.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 14 February 2021 21:58 (four years ago)

yeah there are loads of other versions of the beatles' song which are not included here, most of them are bad.

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 14 February 2021 22:00 (four years ago)

I think Abbie Hoffman had written a song called "Come Together" and asked John Lennon to do it, but he didn't and nicked the title instead.

So I read, anyway

Mark G, Sunday, 14 February 2021 22:06 (four years ago)

The MC5, easy choice

would a nit be nice? (NickB), Sunday, 14 February 2021 22:07 (four years ago)

Almost went Spiritualized, but I heard the primal scream one on topofthepops yesterday, so.

Obviously the Beatles one is best, but hey let's not.

Mark G, Sunday, 14 February 2021 22:11 (four years ago)

I voted for it because it's one of the few Beatles songs I genuinely love and I need to make up for my overall bias against them every once in a while.

I believe the MC5 song is the only one of these to feature the chant, "Nipples stiffen! Nipples stiffen!"

Halfway there but for you, Sunday, 14 February 2021 23:03 (four years ago)

The Annie and Spiritualized ones are are very good

that's not my post, Sunday, 14 February 2021 23:46 (four years ago)

Hate the Beatles one - shitty annoying lyrics like a lot of their stuff

nashwan, Monday, 15 February 2021 10:39 (four years ago)

yeah I deny the Beatles one, part of my oft-repeated 'Abbey Road needs to lose the first 5 tracks then it's perfect' opinion

voted Spiritualized

imago, Monday, 15 February 2021 11:17 (four years ago)

Always found the Beatles song a bit of a slog. The Blur song is... not good, but that's the song that started playing in my head when I saw the thread title, so voted that.

Quite into the 7" single version of Primal Scream's song, with the full lead vocal

First four. Five is Octopus's Garden, a classic.

Hear, hear! Abbey Road starting with 'I Want You (She's So Heavy)' would improve the album 1000%. 'Octopus's Garden' is pish imo.

Voted Spiritualized, though I've a soft spot for both Annie's and MC5's 'Come Together'.

A Scampo Darkly (Le Bateau Ivre), Monday, 15 February 2021 11:56 (four years ago)

Wow, the love for Abbey Road is sort of mysterious to me but the first two songs + "Here Comes the Sun" are the ones I'd keep.

to party with our demons (Sund4r), Monday, 15 February 2021 13:02 (four years ago)

People frontin like it's not clearly The Beatles.

The only band drearier than Primal Scream is Spiritualized (OK maybe The Verve, but they don't have a song called Come Together).

chap, Monday, 15 February 2021 13:07 (four years ago)

I haven't actually listened to most of these so haven't voted but I do like the Beatles song a lot. I think I knew it first from the Aerosmith version.

to party with our demons (Sund4r), Monday, 15 February 2021 13:11 (four years ago)

Side 1 of Abbey Road is patchy but those two Harrison songs are undeniable, even if Here Comes The Sun is a bit overplayed.

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 15 February 2021 13:37 (four years ago)

Weatherall's 10 minute album mix is the best version of Primal Scream's Come Together as it features none of Gillespie's vocals

groovypanda, Monday, 15 February 2021 13:40 (four years ago)

Always liked this "Come Together", one of those great looped-sample French house bangers:

Siegbran, Monday, 15 February 2021 13:42 (four years ago)

I remember I've heard the Primal Scream song too, it's OK (worse than Blur and better than MC5).

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 15 February 2021 14:10 (four years ago)

Yeah the Blur song really is pretty good imo, but I had to vote Spiritualized as that song is a force of nature

imago, Monday, 15 February 2021 14:13 (four years ago)

I like the Spirtualised song as it's like a much better-realised version of what The Verve (and sometimes Oasis) were trying to do

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 15 February 2021 14:18 (four years ago)

worth pointing out that the MC5 song was released 7 months before the beatles song

spiritualized "come together" rocks in all the worst ways: dinky over-treated sounding guitars, plodding beat, ott backing vocals

MC5 "come together" rocks in the best ways: unhinged vocals, loud guitars that sound cool, lyrics about nipples & orgasms

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Monday, 15 February 2021 14:25 (four years ago)

easy vote for Primal Scream

tho the single mix is a disgrace

nashwan, Monday, 15 February 2021 14:45 (four years ago)

Primal Scream’s “Come Together” (the Jesse Jackson version) and it’s not close.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 15 February 2021 14:56 (four years ago)

"Come2gether", by Crystal Method from the compilation album Mortal Kombat: More Kombat

lol what the fuck is this?

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 15 February 2021 14:57 (four years ago)

Crystal Method are breaks/DnB producers I think?

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 15 February 2021 15:08 (four years ago)

It’s nice to see the Abbey Road slander in this thread. I love the Beatles dearly but that album is overrated. I’d rather listen to Let It Be (the album) nine times out of ten

J. Sam, Monday, 15 February 2021 15:21 (four years ago)

I like the one from the Beloved.

You're thinking of "Sweet Harmony"?

I always thought that The Beatles' one is nowhere near their top tier of songs. Same for SPZ. Primal Scream's (the ten minute version) is a stone cold classic and these days it's the only one of their songs that I can really get into.

NoTimeBeforeTime, Monday, 15 February 2021 15:23 (four years ago)

I really love Pepper/MMT/White and love a lot of everything from before that, but never got that into what came after.

to party with our demons (Sund4r), Monday, 15 February 2021 15:46 (four years ago)

Abbey Road was where slickness really took over. I love "Something", but they'd never had such an anonymous, decorative string arrangement before, for instance.

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 15 February 2021 15:48 (four years ago)

Abbey Road was the first Beatles album I listened to all the way through, on my parents record player aged probably 12, and it's been my favourite ever since.

chap, Monday, 15 February 2021 15:56 (four years ago)

I think that's probably it, Halfway there.

primal scream

mellon collie and the infinite bradness (BradNelson), Saturday, 27 February 2021 00:03 (four years ago)

Beatles but Primal Scream on that tour was so over the top mind blowing i had to vote for it here. love Annie and Spiritualized too, can't remember the Blur one at the moment.

Bee OK, Saturday, 27 February 2021 00:38 (four years ago)

surely the absolute most overplayed beatles track?

ufo, Saturday, 27 February 2021 03:24 (four years ago)

Voted for Crystal Method because believe it or not it was the first version of the song I think I listened to by choice on my own.

Spiritualized should be no. 2 but I agree otherwise.
