Stumbled across, surprised. Nice review of Behind The Door, Ned.
I assume they never amounted to anything.

Dentists are great. One of them started the band Coax afterwards and put out one nice record (maybe others? I only ever heard one).
"Strawberries Are Growing In My Garden (And It's Wintertime)" is a delight.

How is there not a Dentists thread already? Unutterably classic of course.

The Dentists -- I know there are other fans, dammit.

Yeah, I was certain we'd talked about them on here before (but not in the last 12 years, fwiw).

Astonishingly little of their output is on Spotify.

Thanks for the compliment, had almost forgotten I'd done those reviews. They do seem very light on the ground when it comes to the modern net -- their old official website doesn't work anymore, nothing on Bandcamp either? But there is a Facebook group and the indefatigable Mark Matthews posts there as well:

It's not that surprising its not on Spotify, most if not all came out on their own label, I don't know if there were cd's at the time, so they'd have to actively repromote themselves onto streaming media where other bands got put there by default.

I was a teenage Dentists fan in the mid-80s, after reading about them in the fanzines that were also pushing Hurrah!, Jasmine Minks, Biff Bang Pow, Primal Scream etc. I remember the last holiday I went on with my parents, in a caravan on the Suffolk coast, absolutely gripped by "Some People Are On The Pitch..." on my walkman. 1987 I think.

I'm fairly sure I was at the show Maresn3st has linked there (at least, I saw the Dentists supported by The Claim there around that time*). I imagine i was reading many of the same fanzines as you, mahb
*I loved and love The Claim. The Dentists' first (?) drummer shows up as Vic Templar on the recent Claim LP, revisiting his "Mike The Bike" character / story from thirty years earlier. Quite brought a tear to my eye, it did.
